Philip in Samaria

⁴ Those who had been scattered^(A) preached the word wherever they went.^(B)

²³ When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.^(A)

²¹ “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming^(A) when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.^{(B) 22} You Samaritans worship what you do not know;^(C) we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.^{(D) 23} Yet a time is coming and has now come^(E) when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit^(F) and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. ²⁴ God is spirit,^(G) and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

The Church in Antioch

¹⁹ Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed^(A) traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch,^(B) spreading the word only among Jews.

² But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.^{(A) 3} So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly^(B) for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders.^{(C) 4} The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles.^{(D) 5} There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews,^(E) together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them.^{(F) 6} But they found out about it and fled^(G) to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, ⁷ where they continued to preach^(H) the gospel.^(I)

² We had previously suffered^(A) and been treated outrageously in Philippi,^(B) as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition.^(C)
