³⁴ Some of the people became followers of Paul and believed. Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus,^(A) also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others.

¹⁰ This went on for two years,^(A) so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia^(B) heard the word of the Lord.^(C)

¹⁴ Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.

³³ The commander came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound^(A) with two^(B) chains.^(C) Then he asked who he was and what he had done.

²⁵ As they stretched him out to flog him, Paul said to the centurion standing there, “Is it legal for you to flog a Roman citizen who hasn’t even been found guilty?”^(A)

¹⁶ But when the son of Paul’s sister heard of this plot, he went into the barracks^(A) and told Paul.

¹⁸ So he took him to the commander.

The centurion said, “Paul, the prisoner,^(A) sent for me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.”

¹¹ But the centurion, instead of listening to what Paul said, followed the advice of the pilot and of the owner of the ship.

⁸ His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer,^(A) placed his hands on him^(B) and healed him.^(C)

¹⁶ When we got to Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with a soldier to guard him.^(A)
