⁵ And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, ^(A)a man full of faith and ^(B)of the Holy Spirit, and ^(C)Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, ^(D)a proselyte of Antioch. ⁶ These they set before the apostles, and ^(E)they prayed and ^(F)laid their hands on them.

Stephen Is Seized

⁸ And Stephen, full of grace and ^(A)power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. ⁹ Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. ¹⁰ But ^(B)they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.

⁵⁵ But he, ^(A)full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw ^(B)the glory of God, and Jesus standing ^(C)at the right hand of God.

¹⁸ Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money,

Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch

²⁶ Now ^(A)an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south^[a] to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. ²⁷ And he rose and went. And there was an ^(B)Ethiopian, a ^(C)eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, ^(D)who was in charge of all her treasure. ^(E)He had come to Jerusalem to worship ²⁸ and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. ²⁹ And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.”
