Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit,(A) said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people!(B) If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame(C) and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,(D) whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead,(E) that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is

“‘the stone you builders rejected,
    which has become the cornerstone.’[a](F)

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”(G)

13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John(H) and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men,(I) they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.(J)

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? 10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene,[a] the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. 11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says,

‘The stone that you builders rejected
    has now become the cornerstone.’[b]

12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

13 The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.
