¹⁴ Then he said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed^(A) you to know His will, to see^(B) the Righteous One,^(C) and to hear the sound of His voice.^[a]

⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you! The one who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous.

¹⁰ This is how God’s children—and the Devil’s children—are made evident.

The Command to Love

Whoever does not do what is right is not of God, especially the one who does not love his brother.^(A)

¹³ In fact, sin was in the world before the law, but sin is not charged to a person’s account when there is no law.^(A)

²³ So the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness,^(A)[a] and he was called God’s friend.^(B)

⁶ Just as Abraham believed God,^(A) and it was credited to him for righteousness,^(B)[a]

⁶ Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.^(A)

¹⁷ In this, love is perfected with us so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment,^(A) for we are as He is in this world.^(B)

³⁶ I tell you that on the day of judgment^(A) people will have to account^(B) for every careless word they speak.^[a]

⁹ then the Lord knows how to rescue^(A) the godly from trials and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,^(B)
