⁹ We are glad whenever we are weak^(A) but you are strong;^(B) and our prayer is that you may be fully restored.^{(C) 10} This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh^(D) in my use of authority—the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.^(E)

Final Greetings

¹¹ Finally, brothers and sisters,^(F) rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace.^(G) And the God of love^(H) and peace^(I) will be with you.

⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.^(A)

³ But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning,^(A) your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ,^(A) you are blessed,^(B) for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

³ Not only so, but we^[a] also glory in our sufferings,^(A) because we know that suffering produces perseverance;^(B)

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?^(A) Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?^(B)

⁴ For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness,^(A) yet he lives by God’s power.^(B) Likewise, we are weak^(C) in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him^(D) in our dealing with you.

⁵ Examine yourselves^(E) to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.^(F) Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you^(G)—unless, of course, you fail the test? ⁶ And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test.
