Somos templo del Dios viviente

14 No os unáis en yugo desigual con los incrédulos; porque ¿qué compañerismo tiene la justicia con la injusticia? ¿Y qué comunión la luz con las tinieblas? 15 ¿Y qué concordia Cristo con Belial? ¿O qué parte el creyente con el incrédulo? 16 ¿Y qué acuerdo hay entre el templo de Dios y los ídolos? Porque vosotros sois el templo del Dios viviente,(A) como Dios dijo:

Habitaré y andaré entre ellos,

Y seré su Dios,

Y ellos serán mi pueblo.(B)

17 Por lo cual,

Salid de en medio de ellos, y apartaos, dice el Señor,

Y no toquéis lo inmundo;

Y yo os recibiré,(C)

18 Y seré para vosotros por Padre,

Y vosotros me seréis hijos e hijas, dice el Señor Todopoderoso.(D)

7 Así que, amados, puesto que tenemos tales promesas, limpiémonos de toda contaminación de carne y de espíritu, perfeccionando la santidad en el temor de Dios.

Regocijo de Pablo al arrepentirse los corintios

2 Admitidnos: a nadie hemos agraviado, a nadie hemos corrompido, a nadie hemos engañado. 3 No lo digo para condenaros; pues ya he dicho antes que estáis en nuestro corazón, para morir y para vivir juntamente. 4 Mucha franqueza tengo con vosotros; mucho me glorío con respecto de vosotros; lleno estoy de consolación; sobreabundo de gozo en todas nuestras tribulaciones.

5 Porque de cierto, cuando vinimos a Macedonia,(E) ningún reposo tuvo nuestro cuerpo, sino que en todo fuimos atribulados; de fuera, conflictos; de dentro, temores. 6 Pero Dios, que consuela a los humildes, nos consoló con la venida de Tito; 7 y no solo con su venida, sino también con la consolación con que él había sido consolado en cuanto a vosotros, haciéndonos saber vuestro gran afecto, vuestro llanto, vuestra solicitud por mí, de manera que me regocijé aún más. 8 Porque aunque os contristé con la carta, no me pesa, aunque entonces lo lamenté; porque veo que aquella carta, aunque por algún tiempo, os contristó. 9 Ahora me gozo, no porque hayáis sido contristados, sino porque fuisteis contristados para arrepentimiento; porque habéis sido contristados según Dios, para que ninguna pérdida padecieseis por nuestra parte. 10 Porque la tristeza que es según Dios produce arrepentimiento para salvación, de que no hay que arrepentirse; pero la tristeza del mundo produce muerte. 11 Porque he aquí, esto mismo de que hayáis sido contristados según Dios, ¡qué solicitud produjo en vosotros, qué defensa, qué indignación, qué temor, qué ardiente afecto, qué celo, y qué vindicación! En todo os habéis mostrado limpios en el asunto. 12 Así que, aunque os escribí, no fue por causa del que cometió el agravio, ni por causa del que lo padeció, sino para que se os hiciese manifiesta nuestra solicitud que tenemos por vosotros delante de Dios.

13 Por esto hemos sido consolados en vuestra consolación; pero mucho más nos gozamos por el gozo de Tito, que haya sido confortado su espíritu por todos vosotros. 14 Pues si de algo me he gloriado con él respecto de vosotros, no he sido avergonzado, sino que así como en todo os hemos hablado con verdad, también nuestro gloriarnos con Tito resultó verdad. 15 Y su cariño para con vosotros es aun más abundante, cuando se acuerda de la obediencia de todos vosotros, de cómo lo recibisteis con temor y temblor. 16 Me gozo de que en todo tengo confianza en vosotros.

La ofrenda para los santos

8 Asimismo, hermanos, os hacemos saber la gracia de Dios que se ha dado a las iglesias de Macedonia; 2 que en grande prueba de tribulación, la abundancia de su gozo y su profunda pobreza abundaron en riquezas de su generosidad. 3 Pues doy testimonio de que con agrado han dado conforme a sus fuerzas, y aun más allá de sus fuerzas, 4 pidiéndonos con muchos ruegos que les concediésemos el privilegio de participar en este servicio para los santos.(F) 5 Y no como lo esperábamos, sino que a sí mismos se dieron primeramente al Señor, y luego a nosotros por la voluntad de Dios; 6 de manera que exhortamos a Tito para que tal como comenzó antes, asimismo acabe también entre vosotros esta obra de gracia. 7 Por tanto, como en todo abundáis, en fe, en palabra, en ciencia, en toda solicitud, y en vuestro amor para con nosotros, abundad también en esta gracia.

8 No hablo como quien manda, sino para poner a prueba, por medio de la diligencia de otros, también la sinceridad del amor vuestro. 9 Porque ya conocéis la gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que por amor a vosotros se hizo pobre, siendo rico, para que vosotros con su pobreza fueseis enriquecidos. 10 Y en esto doy mi consejo; porque esto os conviene a vosotros, que comenzasteis antes, no solo a hacerlo, sino también a quererlo, desde el año pasado. 11 Ahora, pues, llevad también a cabo el hacerlo, para que como estuvisteis prontos a querer, así también lo estéis en cumplir conforme a lo que tengáis. 12 Porque si primero hay la voluntad dispuesta, será acepta según lo que uno tiene, no según lo que no tiene. 13 Porque no digo esto para que haya para otros holgura, y para vosotros estrechez, 14 sino para que en este tiempo, con igualdad, la abundancia vuestra supla la escasez de ellos, para que también la abundancia de ellos supla la necesidad vuestra, para que haya igualdad, 15 como está escrito: El que recogió mucho, no tuvo más, y el que poco, no tuvo menos.(G)

16 Pero gracias a Dios que puso en el corazón de Tito la misma solicitud por vosotros. 17 Pues a la verdad recibió la exhortación; pero estando también muy solícito, por su propia voluntad partió para ir a vosotros. 18 Y enviamos juntamente con él al hermano cuya alabanza en el evangelio se oye por todas las iglesias; 19 y no solo esto, sino que también fue designado por las iglesias como compañero de nuestra peregrinación para llevar este donativo, que es administrado por nosotros para gloria del Señor mismo, y para demostrar vuestra buena voluntad; 20 evitando que nadie nos censure en cuanto a esta ofrenda abundante que administramos, 21 procurando hacer las cosas honradamente, no solo delante del Señor sino también delante de los hombres.(H) 22 Enviamos también con ellos a nuestro hermano, cuya diligencia hemos comprobado repetidas veces en muchas cosas, y ahora mucho más diligente por la mucha confianza que tiene en vosotros. 23 En cuanto a Tito, es mi compañero y colaborador para con vosotros; y en cuanto a nuestros hermanos, son mensajeros de las iglesias, y gloria de Cristo. 24 Mostrad, pues, para con ellos ante las iglesias la prueba de vuestro amor, y de nuestro gloriarnos respecto de vosotros.

9 Cuanto a la ministración para los santos, es por demás que yo os escriba; 2 pues conozco vuestra buena voluntad, de la cual yo me glorío entre los de Macedonia, que Acaya está preparada desde el año pasado; y vuestro celo ha estimulado a la mayoría. 3 Pero he enviado a los hermanos, para que nuestro gloriarnos de vosotros no sea vano en esta parte; para que como lo he dicho, estéis preparados; 4 no sea que si vinieren conmigo algunos macedonios, y os hallaren desprevenidos, nos avergoncemos nosotros, por no decir vosotros, de esta nuestra confianza. 5 Por tanto, tuve por necesario exhortar a los hermanos que fuesen primero a vosotros y preparasen primero vuestra generosidad antes prometida, para que esté lista como de generosidad, y no como de exigencia nuestra.

6 Pero esto digo: El que siembra escasamente, también segará escasamente; y el que siembra generosamente, generosamente también segará. 7 Cada uno dé como propuso en su corazón: no con tristeza, ni por necesidad, porque Dios ama al dador alegre. 8 Y poderoso es Dios para hacer que abunde en vosotros toda gracia, a fin de que, teniendo siempre en todas las cosas todo lo suficiente, abundéis para toda buena obra; 9 como está escrito:

Repartió, dio a los pobres;

Su justicia permanece para siempre.(I)

10 Y el que da semilla al que siembra, y pan al que come,(J) proveerá y multiplicará vuestra sementera, y aumentará los frutos de vuestra justicia, 11 para que estéis enriquecidos en todo para toda liberalidad, la cual produce por medio de nosotros acción de gracias a Dios. 12 Porque la ministración de este servicio no solamente suple lo que a los santos falta, sino que también abunda en muchas acciones de gracias a Dios; 13 pues por la experiencia de esta ministración glorifican a Dios por la obediencia que profesáis al evangelio de Cristo, y por la liberalidad de vuestra contribución para ellos y para todos; 14 asimismo en la oración de ellos por vosotros, a quienes aman a causa de la superabundante gracia de Dios en vosotros. 15 ¡Gracias a Dios por su don inefable!

Pablo defiende su ministerio

10 Yo Pablo os ruego por la mansedumbre y ternura de Cristo, yo que estando presente ciertamente soy humilde entre vosotros, mas ausente soy osado para con vosotros; 2 ruego, pues, que cuando esté presente, no tenga que usar de aquella osadía con que estoy dispuesto a proceder resueltamente contra algunos que nos tienen como si anduviésemos según la carne. 3 Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no militamos según la carne; 4 porque las armas de nuestra milicia no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas, 5 derribando argumentos y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y llevando cautivo todo pensamiento a la obediencia a Cristo, 6 y estando prontos para castigar toda desobediencia, cuando vuestra obediencia sea perfecta.

7 Miráis las cosas según la apariencia. Si alguno está persuadido en sí mismo que es de Cristo, esto también piense por sí mismo, que como él es de Cristo, así también nosotros somos de Cristo. 8 Porque aunque me gloríe algo más todavía de nuestra autoridad, la cual el Señor nos dio para edificación y no para vuestra destrucción, no me avergonzaré; 9 para que no parezca como que os quiero amedrentar por cartas. 10 Porque a la verdad, dicen, las cartas son duras y fuertes; mas la presencia corporal débil, y la palabra menospreciable. 11 Esto tenga en cuenta tal persona, que así como somos en la palabra por cartas, estando ausentes, lo seremos también en hechos, estando presentes. 12 Porque no nos atrevemos a contarnos ni a compararnos con algunos que se alaban a sí mismos; pero ellos, midiéndose a sí mismos por sí mismos, y comparándose consigo mismos, no son juiciosos. 13 Pero nosotros no nos gloriaremos desmedidamente, sino conforme a la regla que Dios nos ha dado por medida, para llegar también hasta vosotros. 14 Porque no nos hemos extralimitado, como si no llegásemos hasta vosotros, pues fuimos los primeros en llegar hasta vosotros con el evangelio de Cristo. 15 No nos gloriamos desmedidamente en trabajos ajenos, sino que esperamos que conforme crezca vuestra fe seremos muy engrandecidos entre vosotros, conforme a nuestra regla; 16 y que anunciaremos el evangelio en los lugares más allá de vosotros, sin entrar en la obra de otro para gloriarnos en lo que ya estaba preparado. 17 Mas el que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor;(K) 18 porque no es aprobado el que se alaba a sí mismo, sino aquel a quien Dios alaba.

14 (A)Do not be [a]mismatched with (B)unbelievers; for what do righteousness and lawlessness (C)share together, or what does light have in common with darkness? 15 Or what (D)harmony does Christ have with [b]Belial, or [c]what does a (E)believer share with an (F)unbeliever? 16 Or (G)what agreement does [d]the temple of God have with idols? For we are [e](H)the temple of (I)the living God; just as God said,

“(J)I will (K)dwell among them and (L)walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
17 (M)Therefore, (N)come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord.
“And do not touch what is unclean;
And I will welcome you.
18 (O)And I will be a father to you,
And you shall be (P)sons and daughters to Me,”
Says the Lord Almighty.

Paul Reveals His Heart

7 Therefore, having these promises, (Q)beloved, (R)let’s cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 (S)Make room for us in your hearts; we have wronged no one, we corrupted no one, we have taken advantage of no one. 3 I do not speak to condemn you, for I have said (T)before that you are (U)in our hearts, to die together and to live together. 4 My (V)confidence [f]in you is great; my (W)boasting in your behalf is great. I am filled with (X)comfort; I am overflowing with (Y)joy in all our affliction.

5 For even when we came into (Z)Macedonia our flesh had no rest, but we were (AA)afflicted on every side: (AB)conflicts on the outside, fears inside. 6 But (AC)God, who comforts the [g]discouraged, (AD)comforted us by the arrival of (AE)Titus; 7 and not only by his arrival, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted among you, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced even more. 8 For though I (AF)caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it—for I see that that letter caused you sorrow, though only for a while— 9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything [h]through us. 10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a (AG)repentance [i]without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For behold what earnestness this very thing, this [j]godly sorrow, has produced in you: what vindication of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what (AH)longing, what zeal, what (AI)punishment of wrong! In everything you (AJ)demonstrated yourselves to be innocent in the matter. 12 So although (AK)I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of (AL)the offender nor for the sake of the one offended, but that your earnestness in our behalf might be made known to you in the sight of God. 13 Because of this, we have been (AM)comforted.

And besides our comfort, we rejoiced even much more for the joy of (AN)Titus, because his (AO)spirit has been refreshed by you all. 14 For if I have (AP)boasted to him about you regarding anything, I was not put to shame. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, so also our boasting before (AQ)Titus proved to be the truth. 15 His [k]affection abounds all the more toward you, as he remembers the (AR)obedience of you all, how you received him with (AS)fear and trembling. 16 I rejoice that in everything (AT)I have confidence in you.

Great Generosity

8 Now, brothers and sisters, we make known to you the grace of God which has been (AU)given in the churches of (AV)Macedonia, 2 that in a [l]great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the (AW)wealth of their liberality. 3 For I testify that (AX)according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave voluntarily, 4 begging us with much urging for the (AY)favor [m]of participation in the [n](AZ)support of the [o]saints, 5 and this, not as we had [p]expected, but they first (BA)gave themselves to the Lord and to us by (BB)the will of God. 6 So we (BC)urged (BD)Titus that as he had previously (BE)made a beginning, so he would also complete in you (BF)this gracious work as well.

7 But just as you (BG)excel (BH)in everything, in faith, speaking, knowledge, and in all earnestness and in the [q]love we inspired in you, see that you also (BI)excel in this gracious work. 8 I (BJ)am not saying this as a command, but as proving, through the earnestness of others, the sincerity of your love as well. 9 For you know (BK)the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (BL)though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 10 I (BM)give my opinion in this matter, for this is to your advantage, who were the first to begin (BN)a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it. 11 But now finish [r]doing it also, so that just as there was the (BO)willingness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it by your ability. 12 For if the willingness is present, it is acceptable (BP)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For this is not for the relief of others and for your hardship, but by way of equality— 14 at this present time your abundance will serve as assistance for (BQ)their need, so that their abundance also may [s]serve as assistance for (BR)your need, so that there may be equality; 15 as it is written: “(BS)The one who had gathered much did not have too much, and the one who had gathered little did not have too little.”

16 But (BT)thanks be to God who (BU)puts the same earnestness in your behalf in the heart of (BV)Titus. 17 For he not only accepted our (BW)appeal, but being himself very earnest, he has gone to you of his own accord. 18 We have sent along with him (BX)the brother whose fame in the things of the (BY)gospel has spread through (BZ)all the churches; 19 (CA)and not only that, but he has also been (CB)appointed by the churches to travel with us in (CC)this gracious work, which is being administered by us for the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our (CD)readiness, 20 [t]taking precaution so that no one will discredit us in our administration of this generous gift; 21 for we (CE)have regard for what is honorable, not only in (CF)the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of other people. 22 We have sent with them our brother, whom we have often tested and found diligent in many things, but now even more diligent because of his great confidence in you. 23 As for (CG)Titus, he is my (CH)partner and fellow worker [u]among you; as for our (CI)brothers, they are [v](CJ)messengers of the churches, (CK)a glory to Christ. 24 Therefore, [w]openly before the churches, [x]show them the proof of your love and of our (CL)reason for boasting about you.

God Gives Most

9 For (CM)it is superfluous for me to write to you about this (CN)ministry to the [y]saints; 2 for I know your willingness, of which I (CO)boast about you to the (CP)Macedonians, namely, that (CQ)Achaia has been prepared since (CR)last year, and your zeal has stirred up most of them. 3 But I have sent the brothers, in order that our (CS)boasting about you may not prove empty in this case, so that, (CT)as I was saying, you will be prepared; 4 otherwise, if any (CU)Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we—not to mention you—would be put to shame by this confidence. 5 So I considered it necessary to urge the (CV)brothers that they go on ahead to you and arrange in advance your previously promised [z](CW)generous gift, that the same would be ready as a [aa](CX)generous gift, and not as one grudgingly given due to greediness.

6 Now I say this: (CY)the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows [ab]generously will also reap [ac]generously. 7 Each one must do just as he has decided in his heart, not (CZ)reluctantly or under compulsion, for (DA)God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And (DB)God is able to make all grace overflow to you, so that, always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed; 9 as it is written:

“(DC)He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor,
His righteousness [ad]endures forever.”

10 Now He who supplies (DD)seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and (DE)increase the harvest of your righteousness; 11 you will be (DF)enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing (DG)thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying (DH)the needs of the [ae]saints, but is also overflowing (DI)through many thanksgivings to God. 13 Because of the proof given by this (DJ)ministry, they will (DK)glorify God for your obedience to your (DL)confession of the (DM)gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your [af]contribution to them and to all, 14 while they also, by prayer on your behalf, yearn for you because of the surpassing grace of God in you. 15 (DN)Thanks be to God for His indescribable (DO)gift!

Paul Confronts the Corinthians

10 Now (DP)I, Paul, myself (DQ)urge you by the (DR)meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who (DS)am [ag]meek when face to face with you, but bold toward you when absent! 2 I ask that (DT)when I am present I need not be bold with the confidence with which I intend to be courageous against (DU)some, who regard us as if we walked (DV)according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage battle (DW)according to the flesh, 4 for the (DX)weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but [ah]divinely powerful (DY)for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying arguments and all (DZ)arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the (EA)obedience of Christ, 6 and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever (EB)your obedience is complete.

7 [ai](EC)You are looking at [aj]things as they are outwardly. (ED)If anyone is confident in himself that he is Christ’s, have him consider this again within himself, that just as he is Christ’s, (EE)so too are we. 8 For if (EF)I boast somewhat [ak]more about our (EG)authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for destroying you, I will not be put to shame, 9 [al]for I do not want to seem as if I would terrify you by my letters. 10 For they say, “His letters are weighty and strong, but his [am]personal presence is (EH)unimpressive and (EI)his speech contemptible.” 11 Have such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when absent, such persons we are also in deed when present.

12 For we do not presume to rank or compare ourselves with [an]some of those who (EJ)commend themselves; but when they [ao]measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they have no understanding. 13 But we will not boast (EK)beyond our measure, but [ap](EL)within the measure of the [aq]domain which God assigned to us as a measure, to reach even as far as you. 14 For we are not overextending ourselves, as if we did not reach to you, for (EM)we were the first to come even as far as you in the (EN)gospel of Christ; 15 not boasting (EO)beyond our measure, that is, in (EP)other people’s labors, but with the hope that as (EQ)your faith grows, we will be, [ar]within our [as]domain, (ER)enlarged even more by you, 16 so as to (ES)preach the gospel even to (ET)the regions beyond you, and not to boast [at](EU)in what has been accomplished in the domain of another. 17 But (EV)the one who boasts is to boast in the Lord. 18 For it is not the one who (EW)commends himself that is approved, but the one (EX)whom the Lord commends.
