The Ark Brought to Jerusalem^(A)

6 Again David gathered all the choice men of Israel, thirty thousand. ²And ^(B)David arose and went with all the people who were with him from ^[a]Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called ^[b]by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, ^(C)who dwells between the cherubim. ³So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on ^(D)the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new ^[c]cart. ⁴And they brought it out of ^(E)the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark. ⁵Then David and all the house of Israel ^(F)played music before the Lord on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals.

⁶And when they came to ^(G)Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his ^(H)hand to the ark of God and ^[d]took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. ⁷Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his ^[e]error; and he died there by the ark of God. ⁸And David became angry because of the Lord’s outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place ^[f]Perez Uzzah to this day.

⁹^(I)David was afraid of the Lord that day; and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” ¹⁰So David would not move the ark of the Lord with him into the ^(J)City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the ^(K)Gittite. ¹¹^(L)The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord ^(M)blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.

¹²Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” ^(N)So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness. ¹³And so it was, when ^(O)those bearing the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, that he sacrificed ^(P)oxen and fatted sheep. ¹⁴Then David ^(Q)danced^[g] before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing ^(R)a linen ephod. ¹⁵^(S)So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.

¹⁶Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, ^(T)Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart. ¹⁷So ^(U)they brought the ark of the Lord, and set it in ^(V)its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then David ^(W)offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. ¹⁸And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, ^(X)he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts. ¹⁹^(Y)Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins. So all the people departed, everyone to his house.

²⁰^(Z)Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, ^(AA)uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the ^(AB)base fellows ^[h]shamelessly uncovers himself!”

²¹So David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, ^(AC)who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the ^(AD)people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord. ²²And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.”

²³Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children ^(AE)to the day of her death.

The Ark Brought from Kirjath Jearim^(A)

13 Then David consulted with the ^(B)captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader. ²And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of the Lord our God, let us send out to our brethren everywhere who are ^(C)left in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and their common-lands, that they may gather together to us; ³and let us bring the ark of our God back to us, ^(D)for we have not inquired at it since the days of Saul.” ⁴Then all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

⁵So ^(E)David gathered all Israel together, from ^(F)Shihor in Egypt to as far as the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God ^(G)from Kirjath Jearim. ⁶And David and all Israel went up to ^(H)Baalah,^[a] to Kirjath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, ^(I)who dwells between the cherubim, where His name is proclaimed. ⁷So they ^[b]carried the ark of God ^(J)on a new cart ^(K)from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart. ⁸Then ^(L)David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with ^[c]singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets.

⁹And when they came to ^[d]Chidon’s threshing floor, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen ^[e]stumbled. ¹⁰Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzza, and He struck him ^(M)because he put his hand to the ark; and he ^(N)died there before God. ¹¹And David became angry because of the Lord’s outbreak against Uzza; therefore that place is called ^[f]Perez Uzza to this day. ¹²David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring the ark of God to me?”

¹³So David would not move the ark with him into the City of David, but took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. ¹⁴^(O)The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months. And the Lord blessed ^(P)the house of Obed-Edom and all that he had.

68 Let ^(A)God arise,
Let His enemies be scattered;
Let those also who hate Him flee before Him.
²^(B)As smoke is driven away,
So drive them away;
^(C)As wax melts before the fire,
So let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
³But ^(D)let the righteous be glad;
Let them rejoice before God;
Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly.

⁴Sing to God, sing praises to His name;
^(E)Extol^[a] Him who rides on the ^[b]clouds,
^(F)By His name ^[c]Yah,
And rejoice before Him.

⁵^(G)A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows,
Is God in His holy habitation.
⁶^(H)God sets the solitary in families;
^(I)He brings out those who are bound into prosperity;
But ^(J)the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

⁷O God, ^(K)when You went out before Your people,
When You marched through the wilderness, Selah
⁸The earth shook;
The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God;
Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

Whereby You confirmed Your inheritance,
When it was weary.
¹⁰Your congregation dwelt in it;

¹¹The Lord gave the word;
Great was the ^[d]company of those who proclaimed it:
¹²“Kings^(N) of armies flee, they flee,
And she who remains at home divides the ^[e]spoil.
¹³^(O)Though you lie down among the ^[f]sheepfolds,
^(P)You will be like the wings of a dove covered with silver,

¹⁴^(Q)When the Almighty scattered kings in it,
It was white as snow in Zalmon.

¹⁵A mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan;
A mountain of many peaks is the mountain of Bashan.
¹⁶Why do you ^[g]fume with envy, you mountains of many peaks?
^(R)This is the mountain which God desires to dwell in;
Yes, the Lord will dwell in it forever.

¹⁷^(S)The chariots of God are twenty thousand,
Even thousands of thousands;
The Lord is among them as in Sinai, in the Holy Place.
¹⁸^(T)You have ascended on high,
^(U)You have led captivity captive;
^(V)You have received gifts among men,
Even from ^(W)the rebellious,
^(X)That the Lord God might dwell there.

¹⁹Blessed be the Lord,
Who daily loads us with benefits,

Strengthen, O God, what You have done for us.

Indeed, He sends out His voice, a ^(AR)mighty voice.
³⁴^(AS)Ascribe strength to God;
His excellence is over Israel,
And His strength is in the clouds.

The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people.

Jesus Transfigured on the Mount^(A)

17 Now ^(B)after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; ²and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. ³And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. ⁴Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, ^[a]let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

⁵^(C)While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ^(D)“This is My beloved Son, ^(E)in whom I am well pleased. ^(F)Hear Him!” ⁶^(G)And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. ⁷But Jesus came and ^(H)touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” ⁸When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

⁹Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

¹⁰And His disciples asked Him, saying, ^(I)“Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

¹¹Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming ^[b]first and will ^(J)restore all things. ¹²^(K)But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they ^(L)did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise ^(M)the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” ¹³^(N)Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

A Boy Is Healed^(O)

¹⁴^(P)And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, ¹⁵“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is ^[c]an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. ¹⁶So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”

¹⁷Then Jesus answered and said, “O ^[d]faithless and ^(Q)perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” ¹⁸And Jesus ^(R)rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.

¹⁹Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”

²⁰So Jesus said to them, “Because of your ^[e]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, ^(S)if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. ²¹^[f]However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

Jesus Again Predicts His Death and Resurrection^(T)

²²^(U)Now while they were ^[g]staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, ²³and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” And they were exceedingly ^(V)sorrowful.

Peter and His Master Pay Their Taxes

²⁴^(W)When they had come to ^[h]Capernaum, those who received the ^[i]temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”

²⁵He said, “Yes.”

And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from ^(X)strangers?”

²⁶Peter said to Him, “From strangers.”

Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. ²⁷Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a ^[j]piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”
