32 “Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the king of Assyria:

“‘He will not enter this city
    or shoot an arrow here.
He will not come before it with shield
    or build a siege ramp against it.
33 By the way that he came he will return;(A)
    he will not enter this city,
declares the Lord.
34 I will defend(B) this city and save it,
    for my sake and for the sake of David(C) my servant.’”

32 To sum up, this is what God says regarding the king of Assyria:

He won’t enter this city,
    nor shoot so much as a single arrow there;
Won’t brandish a shield,
    won’t even begin to set siege;
33 He’ll go home by the same road he came;
    he won’t enter this city. God’s word!
34 I’ll shield this city, I’ll save this city,
    for my sake and for David’s sake.

32 I promise that the king of Assyria won't get into Jerusalem, or shoot an arrow into the city, or even surround it and prepare to attack. 33 As surely as I am the Lord, he will return by the way he came and will never enter Jerusalem. 34 I will protect it for myself and for my servant David.
