5 The king of Assyria invaded the entire land, marched against Samaria and laid siege(A) to it for three years. 6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria(B) captured Samaria(C) and deported(D) the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Gozan(E) on the Habor River and in the towns of the Medes.

42 Then God turned away(A) and gave them up to worship(B) the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets:
House of Israel, did you bring Me offerings and sacrifices
40 years in the wilderness?
43 No, you took up the tent of Moloch[a]
and the star of your god Rephan,[b]
the images that you made to worship.
So I will deport you beyond Babylon!(C)[c]
