²⁹ In the time of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser^(A) king of Assyria came and took Ijon,^(B) Abel Beth Maakah, Janoah, Kedesh and Hazor. He took Gilead and Galilee, including all the land of Naphtali,^(C) and deported^(D) the people to Assyria.

The Half-Tribe of Manasseh

²³ The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh^(A) were numerous; they settled in the land from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to Senir (Mount Hermon).^(B)

²⁴ These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah and Jahdiel. They were brave warriors, famous men, and heads of their families. ²⁵ But they were unfaithful^(C) to the God of their ancestors and prostituted^(D) themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. ²⁶ So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit^(E) of Pul^(F) king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser^(G) king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah,^(H) Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.

³⁷ (In those days the Lord began to send Rezin^(A) king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah against Judah.)

³¹ As for the other events of Pekah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals^(A) of the kings of Israel?

³⁰ Then Hoshea^(A) son of Elah conspired against Pekah son of Remaliah. He attacked and assassinated^(B) him, and then succeeded him as king in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah.

17 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea^(B) son of Elah became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned nine years.

² He did evil^(A) in the eyes of the Lord, but not like the kings of Israel who preceded him.

³⁸ Jotham rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David, the city of his father. And Ahaz his son succeeded him as king.
