34 Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him ruler all the days of his life, for the sake of David my servant whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes. 35 (A)But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand and will give it to you, ten tribes. 36 Yet to his son (B)I will give one tribe, that David my servant may always have (C)a lamp before me in Jerusalem, (D)the city where I have chosen to put my name.

34 Howbeit I will not take the whole mamlachah out of his yad; but I will make him nasi all the days of his life l’ma’an Dovid Avdi, whom I chose, because he was shomer over My mitzvot and My chukkot;
35 But I will take the mamlachah out of yad beno, and will give it unto thee, even aseret hashevatim (ten tribes).
36 And unto bno will I give shevet echad (one tribe), l’ma’an Dovid Avdi may have a ner (lamp) always before Me in Yerushalayim, the Ir which I have chosen for Me to put My Shem there.

34 “‘But I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand; I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose and who obeyed my commands and decrees. 35 I will take the kingdom from his son’s hands and give you ten tribes. 36 I will give one tribe(A) to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp(B) before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name.
