Otros edificios de Salomón

7 Después edificó Salomón su propia casa en trece años, y la terminó toda.

2 Asimismo edificó la casa del bosque del Líbano, la cual tenía cien codos de longitud, cincuenta codos de anchura y treinta codos de altura, sobre cuatro hileras de columnas de cedro, con vigas de cedro sobre las columnas. 3 Y estaba cubierta de tablas de cedro arriba sobre las vigas, que se apoyaban en cuarenta y cinco columnas; cada hilera tenía quince columnas. 4 Y había tres hileras de ventanas, una ventana contra la otra en tres hileras. 5 Todas las puertas y los postes eran cuadrados; y unas ventanas estaban frente a las otras en tres hileras.

6 También hizo un pórtico de columnas, que tenía cincuenta codos de largo y treinta codos de ancho; y este pórtico estaba delante de las primeras, con sus columnas y maderos correspondientes.

7 Hizo asimismo el pórtico del trono en que había de juzgar, el pórtico del juicio, y lo cubrió de cedro del suelo al techo.

8 Y la casa en que él moraba, en otro atrio dentro del pórtico, era de obra semejante a esta. Edificó también Salomón para la hija de Faraón, que había tomado por mujer,(A) una casa de hechura semejante a la del pórtico.

9 Todas aquellas obras fueron de piedras costosas, cortadas y ajustadas con sierras según las medidas, así por dentro como por fuera, desde el cimiento hasta los remates, y asimismo por fuera hasta el gran atrio. 10 El cimiento era de piedras costosas, piedras grandes, piedras de diez codos y piedras de ocho codos. 11 De allí hacia arriba eran también piedras costosas, labradas conforme a sus medidas, y madera de cedro. 12 Y en el gran atrio alrededor había tres hileras de piedras labradas, y una hilera de vigas de cedro; y así también el atrio interior de la casa de Jehová, y el atrio de la casa.

Salomón emplea a Hiram, de Tiro

(2 Cr. 2.13-14; 3.15-17)

13 Y envió el rey Salomón, e hizo venir de Tiro a Hiram, 14 hijo de una viuda de la tribu de Neftalí. Su padre, que trabajaba en bronce, era de Tiro; e Hiram era lleno de sabiduría, inteligencia y ciencia en toda obra de bronce. Este, pues, vino al rey Salomón, e hizo toda su obra.

15 Y vació dos columnas de bronce; la altura de cada una era de dieciocho codos, y rodeaba a una y otra un hilo de doce codos. 16 Hizo también dos capiteles de fundición de bronce, para que fuesen puestos sobre las cabezas de las columnas; la altura de un capitel era de cinco codos, y la del otro capitel también de cinco codos. 17 Había trenzas a manera de red, y unos cordones a manera de cadenas, para los capiteles que se habían de poner sobre las cabezas de las columnas; siete para cada capitel. 18 Hizo también dos hileras de granadas alrededor de la red, para cubrir los capiteles que estaban en las cabezas de las columnas con las granadas; y de la misma forma hizo en el otro capitel. 19 Los capiteles que estaban sobre las columnas en el pórtico, tenían forma de lirios, y eran de cuatro codos. 20 Tenían también los capiteles de las dos columnas, doscientas granadas en dos hileras alrededor en cada capitel, encima de su globo, el cual estaba rodeado por la red. 21 Estas columnas erigió en el pórtico del templo; y cuando hubo alzado la columna del lado derecho, le puso por nombre Jaquín, y alzando la columna del lado izquierdo, llamó su nombre Boaz. 22 Y puso en las cabezas de las columnas tallado en forma de lirios, y así se acabó la obra de las columnas.

23 Hizo fundir asimismo un mar de diez codos de un lado al otro, perfectamente redondo; su altura era de cinco codos, y lo ceñía alrededor un cordón de treinta codos. 24 Y rodeaban aquel mar por debajo de su borde alrededor unas bolas como calabazas, diez en cada codo, que ceñían el mar alrededor en dos filas, las cuales habían sido fundidas cuando el mar fue fundido. 25 Y descansaba sobre doce bueyes; tres miraban al norte, tres miraban al occidente, tres miraban al sur, y tres miraban al oriente; sobre estos se apoyaba el mar, y las ancas de ellos estaban hacia la parte de adentro. 26 El grueso del mar era de un palmo menor, y el borde era labrado como el borde de un cáliz o de flor de lis; y cabían en él dos mil batos.

27 Hizo también diez basas de bronce, siendo la longitud de cada basa de cuatro codos, y la anchura de cuatro codos, y de tres codos la altura. 28 La obra de las basas era esta: tenían unos tableros, los cuales estaban entre molduras; 29 y sobre aquellos tableros que estaban entre las molduras, había figuras de leones, de bueyes y de querubines; y sobre las molduras de la basa, así encima como debajo de los leones y de los bueyes, había unas añadiduras de bajo relieve. 30 Cada basa tenía cuatro ruedas de bronce, con ejes de bronce, y en sus cuatro esquinas había repisas de fundición que sobresalían de los festones, para venir a quedar debajo de la fuente. 31 Y la boca de la fuente entraba un codo en el remate que salía para arriba de la basa; y la boca era redonda, de la misma hechura del remate, y este de codo y medio. Había también sobre la boca entalladuras con sus tableros, los cuales eran cuadrados, no redondos. 32 Las cuatro ruedas estaban debajo de los tableros, y los ejes de las ruedas nacían en la misma basa. La altura de cada rueda era de un codo y medio. 33 Y la forma de las ruedas era como la de las ruedas de un carro; sus ejes, sus rayos, sus cubos y sus cinchos, todo era de fundición. 34 Asimismo las cuatro repisas de las cuatro esquinas de cada basa; y las repisas eran parte de la misma basa. 35 Y en lo alto de la basa había una pieza redonda de medio codo de altura, y encima de la basa sus molduras y tableros, los cuales salían de ella misma. 36 E hizo en las tablas de las molduras, y en los tableros, entalladuras de querubines, de leones y de palmeras, con proporción en el espacio de cada una, y alrededor otros adornos. 37 De esta forma hizo diez basas, fundidas de una misma manera, de una misma medida y de una misma entalladura.

38 Hizo también diez fuentes de bronce;(B) cada fuente contenía cuarenta batos, y cada una era de cuatro codos; y colocó una fuente sobre cada una de las diez basas. 39 Y puso cinco basas a la mano derecha de la casa, y las otras cinco a la mano izquierda; y colocó el mar al lado derecho de la casa, al oriente, hacia el sur.

40 Asimismo hizo Hiram fuentes, y tenazas, y cuencos. Así terminó toda la obra que hizo a Salomón para la casa de Jehová: 41 dos columnas, y los capiteles redondos que estaban en lo alto de las dos columnas; y dos redes que cubrían los dos capiteles redondos que estaban sobre la cabeza de las columnas; 42 cuatrocientas granadas para las dos redes, dos hileras de granadas en cada red, para cubrir los dos capiteles redondos que estaban sobre las cabezas de las columnas; 43 las diez basas, y las diez fuentes sobre las basas; 44 un mar, con doce bueyes debajo del mar; 45 y calderos, paletas, cuencos, y todos los utensilios que Hiram hizo al rey Salomón, para la casa de Jehová, de bronce bruñido. 46 Todo lo hizo fundir el rey en la llanura del Jordán, en tierra arcillosa, entre Sucot y Saretán. 47 Y no inquirió Salomón el peso del bronce de todos los utensilios, por la gran cantidad de ellos.

48 Entonces hizo Salomón todos los enseres que pertenecían a la casa de Jehová: un altar de oro,(C) y una mesa también de oro,(D) sobre la cual estaban los panes de la proposición; 49 cinco candeleros(E) de oro purísimo a la mano derecha, y otros cinco a la izquierda, frente al lugar santísimo; con las flores, las lámparas y tenazas de oro. 50 Asimismo los cántaros, despabiladeras, tazas, cucharillas e incensarios, de oro purísimo; también de oro los quiciales de las puertas de la casa de adentro, del lugar santísimo, y los de las puertas del templo.

51 Así se terminó toda la obra que dispuso hacer el rey Salomón para la casa de Jehová. Y metió Salomón lo que David su padre había dedicado,(F) plata, oro y utensilios; y depositó todo en las tesorerías de la casa de Jehová.

Salomón traslada el arca al templo

(2 Cr. 5.2-14)

8 Entonces Salomón reunió ante sí en Jerusalén a los ancianos de Israel, a todos los jefes de las tribus, y a los principales de las familias de los hijos de Israel, para traer el arca del pacto de Jehová de la ciudad de David,(G) la cual es Sion. 2 Y se reunieron con el rey Salomón todos los varones de Israel en el mes de Etanim, que es el mes séptimo, en el día de la fiesta solemne. 3 Y vinieron todos los ancianos de Israel, y los sacerdotes tomaron el arca. 4 Y llevaron el arca de Jehová, y el tabernáculo de reunión, y todos los utensilios sagrados que estaban en el tabernáculo, los cuales llevaban los sacerdotes y levitas. 5 Y el rey Salomón, y toda la congregación de Israel que se había reunido con él, estaban con él delante del arca, sacrificando ovejas y bueyes, que por la multitud no se podían contar ni numerar. 6 Y los sacerdotes metieron el arca del pacto de Jehová en su lugar, en el santuario de la casa, en el lugar santísimo, debajo de las alas de los querubines. 7 Porque los querubines tenían extendidas las alas sobre el lugar del arca, y así cubrían los querubines el arca y sus varas por encima. 8 Y sacaron las varas, de manera que sus extremos se dejaban ver desde el lugar santo, que está delante del lugar santísimo, pero no se dejaban ver desde más afuera; y así quedaron hasta hoy. 9 En el arca ninguna cosa había sino las dos tablas de piedra que allí había puesto Moisés en Horeb,(H) donde Jehová hizo pacto con los hijos de Israel, cuando salieron de la tierra de Egipto. 10 Y cuando los sacerdotes salieron del santuario, la nube llenó la casa de Jehová. 11 Y los sacerdotes no pudieron permanecer para ministrar por causa de la nube; porque la gloria de Jehová había llenado la casa de Jehová.(I)

Dedicación del templo

(2 Cr. 6.1—7.10)

12 Entonces dijo Salomón: Jehová ha dicho que él habitaría en la oscuridad. 13 Yo he edificado casa por morada para ti, sitio en que tú habites para siempre. 14 Y volviendo el rey su rostro, bendijo a toda la congregación de Israel; y toda la congregación de Israel estaba de pie. 15 Y dijo: Bendito sea Jehová, Dios de Israel, que habló a David mi padre lo que con su mano ha cumplido, diciendo: 16 Desde el día que saqué de Egipto a mi pueblo Israel, no he escogido ciudad de todas las tribus de Israel para edificar casa en la cual estuviese mi nombre, aunque escogí a David para que presidiese en mi pueblo Israel.(J) 17 Y David mi padre tuvo en su corazón edificar casa al nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel. 18 Pero Jehová dijo a David mi padre: Cuanto a haber tenido en tu corazón edificar casa a mi nombre, bien has hecho en tener tal deseo.(K) 19 Pero tú no edificarás la casa, sino tu hijo que saldrá de tus lomos, él edificará casa a mi nombre.(L) 20 Y Jehová ha cumplido su palabra que había dicho; porque yo me he levantado en lugar de David mi padre, y me he sentado en el trono de Israel, como Jehová había dicho, y he edificado la casa al nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel. 21 Y he puesto en ella lugar para el arca, en la cual está el pacto de Jehová que él hizo con nuestros padres cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto.

22 Luego se puso Salomón delante del altar de Jehová, en presencia de toda la congregación de Israel, y extendiendo sus manos al cielo, 23 dijo: Jehová Dios de Israel, no hay Dios como tú, ni arriba en los cielos ni abajo en la tierra, que guardas el pacto y la misericordia a tus siervos, los que andan delante de ti con todo su corazón; 24 que has cumplido a tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste; lo dijiste con tu boca, y con tu mano lo has cumplido, como sucede en este día. 25 Ahora, pues, Jehová Dios de Israel, cumple a tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste, diciendo: No te faltará varón delante de mí, que se siente en el trono de Israel, con tal que tus hijos guarden mi camino y anden delante de mí como tú has andado delante de mí.(M) 26 Ahora, pues, oh Jehová Dios de Israel, cúmplase la palabra que dijiste a tu siervo David mi padre.

27 Pero ¿es verdad que Dios morará sobre la tierra? He aquí que los cielos, los cielos de los cielos, no te pueden contener; ¿cuánto menos esta casa que yo he edificado?(N) 28 Con todo, tú atenderás a la oración de tu siervo, y a su plegaria, oh Jehová Dios mío, oyendo el clamor y la oración que tu siervo hace hoy delante de ti; 29 que estén tus ojos abiertos de noche y de día sobre esta casa, sobre este lugar del cual has dicho: Mi nombre estará allí;(O) y que oigas la oración que tu siervo haga en este lugar. 30 Oye, pues, la oración de tu siervo, y de tu pueblo Israel; cuando oren en este lugar, también tú lo oirás en el lugar de tu morada, en los cielos; escucha y perdona.

31 Si alguno pecare contra su prójimo, y le tomaren juramento haciéndole jurar, y viniere el juramento delante de tu altar en esta casa; 32 tú oirás desde el cielo y actuarás, y juzgarás a tus siervos, condenando al impío y haciendo recaer su proceder sobre su cabeza, y justificando al justo para darle conforme a su justicia.

33 Si tu pueblo Israel fuere derrotado delante de sus enemigos por haber pecado contra ti, y se volvieren a ti y confesaren tu nombre, y oraren y te rogaren y suplicaren en esta casa, 34 tú oirás en los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y los volverás a la tierra que diste a sus padres.

35 Si el cielo se cerrare y no lloviere, por haber ellos pecado contra ti, y te rogaren en este lugar y confesaren tu nombre, y se volvieren del pecado, cuando los afligieres, 36 tú oirás en los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tus siervos y de tu pueblo Israel, enseñándoles el buen camino en que anden; y darás lluvias sobre tu tierra, la cual diste a tu pueblo por heredad.

37 Si en la tierra hubiere hambre, pestilencia, tizoncillo, añublo, langosta o pulgón; si sus enemigos los sitiaren en la tierra en donde habiten; cualquier plaga o enfermedad que sea; 38 toda oración y toda súplica que hiciere cualquier hombre, o todo tu pueblo Israel, cuando cualquiera sintiere la plaga en su corazón, y extendiere sus manos a esta casa, 39 tú oirás en los cielos, en el lugar de tu morada, y perdonarás, y actuarás, y darás a cada uno conforme a sus caminos, cuyo corazón tú conoces (porque solo tú conoces el corazón de todos los hijos de los hombres); 40 para que te teman todos los días que vivan sobre la faz de la tierra que tú diste a nuestros padres.

41 Asimismo el extranjero, que no es de tu pueblo Israel, que viniere de lejanas tierras a causa de tu nombre 42 (pues oirán de tu gran nombre, de tu mano fuerte y de tu brazo extendido), y viniere a orar a esta casa, 43 tú oirás en los cielos, en el lugar de tu morada, y harás conforme a todo aquello por lo cual el extranjero hubiere clamado a ti, para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu nombre y te teman, como tu pueblo Israel, y entiendan que tu nombre es invocado sobre esta casa que yo edifiqué.

44 Si tu pueblo saliere en batalla contra sus enemigos por el camino que tú les mandes, y oraren a Jehová con el rostro hacia la ciudad que tú elegiste, y hacia la casa que yo edifiqué a tu nombre, 45 tú oirás en los cielos su oración y su súplica, y les harás justicia.

46 Si pecaren contra ti (porque no hay hombre que no peque), y estuvieres airado contra ellos, y los entregares delante del enemigo, para que los cautive y lleve a tierra enemiga, sea lejos o cerca, 47 y ellos volvieren en sí en la tierra donde fueren cautivos; si se convirtieren, y oraren a ti en la tierra de los que los cautivaron, y dijeren: Pecamos, hemos hecho lo malo, hemos cometido impiedad; 48 y si se convirtieren a ti de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, en la tierra de sus enemigos que los hubieren llevado cautivos, y oraren a ti con el rostro hacia su tierra que tú diste a sus padres, y hacia la ciudad que tú elegiste y la casa que yo he edificado a tu nombre, 49 tú oirás en los cielos, en el lugar de tu morada, su oración y su súplica, y les harás justicia. 50 Y perdonarás a tu pueblo que había pecado contra ti, y todas sus infracciones con que se hayan rebelado contra ti, y harás que tengan de ellos misericordia los que los hubieren llevado cautivos; 51 porque ellos son tu pueblo y tu heredad, el cual tú sacaste de Egipto, de en medio del horno de hierro. 52 Estén, pues, atentos tus ojos a la oración de tu siervo y a la plegaria de tu pueblo Israel, para oírlos en todo aquello por lo cual te invocaren; 53 porque tú los apartaste para ti como heredad tuya de entre todos los pueblos de la tierra, como lo dijiste por medio de Moisés tu siervo, cuando sacaste a nuestros padres de Egipto, oh Señor Jehová.

54 Cuando acabó Salomón de hacer a Jehová toda esta oración y súplica, se levantó de estar de rodillas delante del altar de Jehová con sus manos extendidas al cielo; 55 y puesto en pie, bendijo a toda la congregación de Israel, diciendo en voz alta: 56 Bendito sea Jehová, que ha dado paz a su pueblo Israel, conforme a todo lo que él había dicho; ninguna palabra de todas sus promesas que expresó por Moisés su siervo, ha faltado.(P) 57 Esté con nosotros Jehová nuestro Dios, como estuvo con nuestros padres, y no nos desampare ni nos deje. 58 Incline nuestro corazón hacia él, para que andemos en todos sus caminos, y guardemos sus mandamientos y sus estatutos y sus decretos, los cuales mandó a nuestros padres. 59 Y estas mis palabras con que he orado delante de Jehová, estén cerca de Jehová nuestro Dios de día y de noche, para que él proteja la causa de su siervo y de su pueblo Israel, cada cosa en su tiempo; 60 a fin de que todos los pueblos de la tierra sepan que Jehová es Dios, y que no hay otro. 61 Sea, pues, perfecto vuestro corazón para con Jehová nuestro Dios, andando en sus estatutos y guardando sus mandamientos, como en el día de hoy.

62 Entonces el rey, y todo Israel con él, sacrificaron víctimas delante de Jehová. 63 Y ofreció Salomón sacrificios de paz, los cuales ofreció a Jehová: veintidós mil bueyes y ciento veinte mil ovejas. Así dedicaron el rey y todos los hijos de Israel la casa de Jehová. 64 Aquel mismo día santificó el rey el medio del atrio, el cual estaba delante de la casa de Jehová; porque ofreció allí los holocaustos, las ofrendas y la grosura de los sacrificios de paz, por cuanto el altar de bronce que estaba delante de Jehová era pequeño, y no cabían en él los holocaustos, las ofrendas y la grosura de los sacrificios de paz.

65 En aquel tiempo Salomón hizo fiesta, y con él todo Israel, una gran congregación, desde donde entran en Hamat hasta el río de Egipto, delante de Jehová nuestro Dios, por siete días y aun por otros siete días, esto es, por catorce días. 66 Y al octavo día despidió al pueblo; y ellos, bendiciendo al rey, se fueron a sus moradas alegres y gozosos de corazón, por todos los beneficios que Jehová había hecho a David su siervo y a su pueblo Israel.

Solomon’s Palace

7 Now (A)Solomon built his own house over the course of thirteen years, and he finished all of his house. 2 (B)He built the house of the timber from Lebanon; its length was [a]a hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits, on four rows of cedar pillars with cedar beams on the pillars. 3 And it was paneled with cedar above the side chambers which were on the forty-five pillars, fifteen in each row. 4 There were artistic window frames in three rows, and window was opposite window at three [b]intervals. 5 And all the doorways and doorposts had squared artistic frames, and window was opposite window at three [c]intervals.

6 Then he made (C)the hall of pillars; its length was [d]fifty cubits and its width thirty cubits, and a porch was in front of them and pillars and a (D)threshold in front of them.

7 And he made the hall of the (E)throne where he was to judge, the hall of judgment, and (F)it was paneled with cedar from floor to floor.

8 And his house where he was to live, the other courtyard inward from the hall, was of this same workmanship. (G)He also made a house like this hall for Pharaoh’s daughter, (H)whom Solomon had married.

9 All of these were made of valuable stones, of stone cut according to measure, sawed with saws, inside and outside; even from the foundation to the [e]coping, and from the outside to the large courtyard.

10 And the foundation was of valuable stones, large stones, stones of [f]ten cubits and stones of eight cubits. 11 And above were valuable stones, cut according to measure, and cedar. 12 So (I)the large courtyard all around had three rows of cut stone and a row of cedar beams as well as the inner courtyard of the house of the Lord, and (J)the porch of the house.

Hiram’s Work in the Temple

13 Now (K)King Solomon sent word and had Hiram brought from Tyre. 14 (L)He was a widow’s son from the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, an artisan in bronze; and (M)he was filled with wisdom, skill, and knowledge for doing any work in bronze. So he came to King Solomon and (N)performed all his work.

15 He fashioned (O)the two pillars of bronze; [g](P)eighteen cubits was the height of [h]each pillar, and a line of [i]twelve cubits [j]measured the circumference of both. 16 He also made two capitals of cast bronze to put on the tops of the pillars; the height of the one capital was [k]five cubits and the height of the other capital was [l]five cubits. 17 There were lattices of latticework and wreaths of chainwork for the capitals which were on the top of the pillars; seven for the one capital and seven for the other capital. 18 So he made the pillars, and two rows around on the one lattice to cover the capitals which were on the top of the pomegranates; and so he did for the other capital. 19 The capitals which were on the tops of the pillars in the porch were of lily design, four cubits. 20 So there were capitals on the two pillars, also above and close to the [m]rounded projection which was beside the lattice; and (Q)the pomegranates totaled two hundred in rows around [n]both capitals. 21 (R)And he set up the pillars at the (S)porch of the [o]main room: he set up the right pillar and named it [p]Jachin, and he set up the left pillar and named it [q]Boaz. 22 On the top of the pillars was the lily design. So the work of the pillars was finished.

23 (T)He also he made the [r]Sea of (U)cast metal [s]ten cubits from brim to brim, circular in shape, and its height was five cubits, and [t]it was [u]thirty cubits in circumference. 24 Under its brim (V)gourds went around encircling it ten to a cubit, (W)completely surrounding the Sea; the gourds were in two rows, cast [v]with the rest. 25 (X)It was standing on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east; and the Sea was set on top of them, and all their rear parts turned inward. 26 And it was a [w]hand width thick, and its brim was made like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom; it could hold [x]two thousand baths.

27 Then (Y)he made the ten stands of bronze; the length of each stand was [y]four cubits, its width four cubits, and its height was three cubits. 28 This was the design of the stands: they had borders, that is, borders between the crossbars, 29 and on the borders which were between the crossbars were lions, oxen, and cherubim; and on the crossbars there was a pedestal above, and beneath the lions and oxen were wreaths of hanging work. 30 Now each stand had four bronze wheels with bronze axles, and its four feet had supports; beneath the basin were cast supports with wreaths at each side. 31 And its opening inside the crown at the top was a [z]cubit, and its opening was round like the design of a pedestal, a cubit and a half; and on its opening also there were engravings, and their borders were square, not round. 32 The four wheels were underneath the borders, and the axles of the wheels were on the stand. And the height of a wheel was a cubit and a half. 33 The workmanship of the wheels was like the workmanship of a chariot wheel. Their axles, their rims, their spokes, and their hubs were all cast. 34 Now there were four supports at the four corners of each stand; its supports were part of the stand itself. 35 And on the top of the stand there was a circular form [aa]half a cubit high, and on the top of the stand its [ab]stays and its borders were part of it. 36 And he engraved on the plates of its stays and on its borders cherubim, lions, and palm trees, as there was clear space on each, with wreaths all around. 37 (Z)He made the ten stands like this: all of them had the [ac]same casting, [ad]same measure, and [ae]same form.

38 (AA)And he made ten basins of bronze, [af]each holding [ag]forty baths; each basin was [ah]four cubits, and on each of the ten stands was one basin. 39 Then he placed the stands, five on the right side of the house and five on the left side of the house; and he set the [ai]Sea of cast metal on the right side of the house eastward toward the south.

40 Now Hiram made the basins and the shovels and the bowls. So Hiram finished doing all the work which he performed for King Solomon in the house of the Lord: 41 the two pillars and the two bowls of the capitals which were on the top of the (AB)two pillars, and the two lattices to cover the two bowls of the capitals which were on the top of the pillars; 42 and the (AC)four hundred pomegranates for the two lattices, two rows of pomegranates for each lattice to cover the two bowls of the capitals which were on the tops of the pillars; 43 and the ten stands with the ten basins on the stands; 44 and (AD)the one [aj]Sea and the twelve oxen under the Sea; 45 and (AE)the buckets, the shovels, and the bowls; indeed, all these utensils which Hiram made for King Solomon in the house of the Lord were of polished bronze. 46 (AF)The king had them cast in the plain of the Jordan, in the clay ground between (AG)Succoth and (AH)Zarethan. 47 However, Solomon left all the utensils unweighed, because they were too many; (AI)the weight of the bronze could not be determined.

48 Solomon also made all the furniture that was in the house of the Lord: (AJ)the golden altar and the golden table on which was set the (AK)bread of the Presence; 49 and the lampstands of pure gold, five on the right side and five on the left, in front of the inner sanctuary; and (AL)the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs, of gold; 50 also the cups, the [ak]shears, the bowls, the ladles, and the (AM)firepans, of pure gold; and the hinges both for the doors of the inner house, the Most Holy Place, and for the doors of the house, that is, for the main room, of gold.

51 (AN)So all the work that King Solomon performed in the house of the Lord was finished. And (AO)Solomon brought in the offerings vowed by his father David, the silver and the gold and the utensils, and he put them in the treasuries of the house of the Lord.

The Ark Brought into the Temple

8 (AP)Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all (AQ)the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ households of the sons of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, (AR)to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from (AS)the city of David, that is, Zion. 2 So all the men of Israel assembled themselves before King Solomon at (AT)the feast, in the month Ethanim, that is, the seventh month. 3 Then all the elders of Israel came, and (AU)the priests took up the ark. 4 And they brought up the ark of the Lord, (AV)the tent of meeting, and all the holy utensils which were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up. 5 And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who were gathered together to him, (AW)were with him before the ark, sacrificing [al]so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. 6 Then (AX)the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord (AY)to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the Most Holy Place, (AZ)under the wings of the cherubim. 7 For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim made a covering over the ark and its carrying poles from above. 8 But (BA)the poles were so long that the ends of the poles could be seen from the holy place in front of the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen outside; they are there to this day. 9 (BB)There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, where (BC)the Lord made a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. 10 And it happened that when the priests came from the holy place, (BD)the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

Solomon Addresses the People

12 (BE)Then Solomon said,

“The Lord has said that (BF)He would dwell in the thick darkness.
13 (BG)I have truly built You a lofty house,
(BH)A place for Your dwelling forever.”

14 Then the king [am]turned around and (BI)blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing. 15 He said, “(BJ)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, (BK)who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and fulfilled it with His hands, saying, 16 ‘(BL)Since the day that I brought My people Israel from Egypt, I did not choose a city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house so that (BM)My name would be there, but (BN)I chose David to be over My people Israel.’ 17 (BO)Now it was [an]in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 18 But the Lord said to my father David, ‘Because it was [ao]in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was [ap]in your heart. 19 (BP)Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who [aq]will be born to you, he will build the house for My name.’ 20 Now the Lord has fulfilled His word which He spoke; for (BQ)I have risen in place of my father David and I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the Lord [ar]promised, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 21 And there I have set a place for the ark, (BR)in which is the covenant of the Lord, which He made with our fathers when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.”

The Prayer of Dedication

22 Then (BS)Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and he (BT)spread out his hands toward heaven. 23 And he said, “Lord, God of Israel, (BU)there is no God like You in heaven above or on earth beneath, (BV)keeping the covenant and showing faithfulness to Your servants who walk before You with all their heart, 24 You who have kept with Your servant, my father David, that which You [as]promised him; You have spoken with Your mouth and have fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day. 25 Now then, Lord, God of Israel, keep with Your servant David my father that which You have [at]promised him, saying, ‘[au](BW)You shall not be deprived of a man to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your sons are careful about their way, to walk before Me as you have walked.’ 26 Now then, God of Israel, let Your words, please, be confirmed, (BX)which You have spoken to Your servant, my father David.

27 “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, (BY)heaven and the [av]highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built! 28 Nevertheless, turn Your attention to the (BZ)prayer of Your servant and to his plea, Lord, my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which Your servant prays before You today, 29 (CA)so that Your eyes may be open toward this house night and day, toward (CB)the place of which You have said, ‘My name shall be there,’ to listen to the prayer which Your servant will pray toward this place. 30 And (CC)listen to the plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel, (CD)when they pray toward this place; hear in heaven Your dwelling place; hear and (CE)forgive!

31 “(CF)If a person sins against his neighbor and is compelled to take an oath of innocence, and he comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this house, 32 then hear in heaven and act and judge Your servants, (CG)condemning the wicked by [aw]bringing his way on his own head, and acquitting the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.

33 “(CH)When Your people Israel are [ax]defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, (CI)if they turn to You again and confess Your name and pray and implore Your [ay]favor in this house, 34 then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave their fathers.

35 “(CJ)When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and praise Your name, and turn from their sin when You afflict them, 36 then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants and Your people Israel; (CK)indeed, teach them the good way in which they are to walk. And (CL)provide rain on Your land, which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.

37 “(CM)If there is a famine in the land, if there is a plague, if there is [az]blight or mildew, locust or grasshopper, if their enemy harasses them in the land of their [ba]cities, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, 38 whatever prayer or plea [bb]is offered by any person or by all Your people Israel, [bc]each knowing the affliction of his own heart, and spreading his [bd]hands toward this house; 39 then hear in heaven, Your dwelling place, and forgive and act, and give to each in accordance with all his ways, (CN)whose heart You know—for (CO)You alone know the hearts of all [be]mankind— 40 so that they will [bf]fear You all the days that they live on the [bg]land which You have given to our fathers.

41 “Also regarding the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel, when he comes from a far country on account of Your name 42 (for they will hear of Your great name (CP)and Your mighty hand, and of Your outstretched arm); when he comes and prays toward this house, 43 hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and act in accordance with all for which the foreigner calls to You, in order (CQ)that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name, to [bh]fear You, as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that [bi]this house which I have built is called by Your name.

44 “When Your people go out to battle against [bj]their enemy, by whatever way You send them, and (CR)they pray to the Lord [bk]toward the city which You have chosen and the house which I have built for Your name, 45 then hear in heaven their prayer and their pleading, and maintain their cause.

46 “When they sin against You (for (CS)there is no person who does not sin) and You are angry with them and turn them over to an enemy, so that [bl]they take them away captive (CT)to the land of the enemy, distant or near; 47 (CU)if they [bm]take it to heart in the land where they have been taken captive, and repent and implore Your [bn]favor in the land of those who have taken them captive, saying, ‘(CV)We have sinned and done wrong, we have acted wickedly’; 48 (CW)if they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who have taken them captive, and (CX)pray to You toward their land which You have given to their fathers, the city which You have chosen, and the house which I have built for Your name; 49 then hear their prayer and their pleading in heaven, Your dwelling place, and maintain their cause, 50 and forgive Your people who have sinned against You and all their wrongdoings which they have committed against You, and (CY)make them objects of compassion before those who have taken them captive, so that they will have compassion on them 51 ((CZ)for they are Your people and Your inheritance which You have brought out of Egypt, (DA)from the midst of the iron furnace), 52 (DB)so that Your eyes may be open to the pleading of Your servant and to the pleading of Your people Israel, to listen to them whenever they call to You. 53 For You have singled them out from all the peoples of the earth as Your inheritance, (DC)just as You spoke through Moses Your servant, when You brought our fathers out of Egypt, Lord [bo]God.”

Solomon’s Benediction

54 (DD)When Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and plea to the Lord, (DE)he stood up from the altar of the Lord, from kneeling on his knees with his [bp]hands spread toward heaven. 55 And he stood and (DF)blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying:

56 “Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel (DG)in accordance with everything that He [bq]promised; (DH)not one word has [br]failed of all His good [bs]promise, which He [bt]promised through Moses His servant. 57 May the Lord our God be with us, as He was with our fathers; (DI)may He not leave us nor forsake us, 58 so that (DJ)He may guide our hearts toward Himself, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His ordinances, which He commanded our fathers. 59 And may these words of mine, with which I have implored the [bu]favor of the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, so that He will maintain the cause of His servant and the cause of His people Israel, [bv]as each day requires, 60 so (DK)that all the peoples of the earth may know that (DL)the Lord is God; there is no one else. 61 (DM)Your hearts therefore shall be [bw]wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at this day.”

Dedicatory Sacrifices

62 (DN)Then the king and all Israel with him (DO)offered sacrifice before the Lord. 63 And Solomon offered for the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered to the Lord, twenty-two thousand oxen and 120,000 sheep. (DP)So the king and all the sons of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord. 64 On the same day the king consecrated the middle of the courtyard that was in front of the house of the Lord, because there he [bx]offered the burnt offering, the grain offering, and the fat of the peace offerings; for (DQ)the bronze altar that was before the Lord was too small to hold the burnt offering, the grain offering, and the fat of the peace offerings.

65 So (DR)Solomon held the [by]feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly (DS)from the entrance of Hamath (DT)to the brook of Egypt, before the Lord our God, for seven days and seven more days, that is, fourteen days. 66 On the eighth day he dismissed the people, and they blessed the king. Then they went to their tents joyful and with happy hearts for all the goodness that the Lord had [bz]shown to David His servant, and to Israel His people.
