²⁰ For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if ^(A)when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.

Christ Is Our Example

²¹ For ^(B)you have been called for this purpose, ^(C)because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you ^(D)an example, so that you would follow in His steps, ²² He who ^(E)committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; ^23 [a]and while being ^(F)abusively insulted, He did not insult in return; while suffering, He did not threaten, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; ²⁴ and He Himself ^[b](G)brought our sins in His body up on the ^[c](H)cross, so that we ^(I)might die to ^[d]sin and live for righteousness; ^(J)by His ^[e]wounds you were ^(K)healed.

¹⁷ For ^(A)it is better, ^(B)if ^[a]God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong. ¹⁸ For ^(C)Christ also ^[b]suffered for sins ^(D)once for all time, the just for the unjust, so that He might ^(E)bring us to God, having been put to death ^(F)in the flesh, but made alive ^(G)in the ^[c]spirit;
