²¹ Dear children,^(A) keep yourselves from idols.^(B)

²⁵ For whoever wants to save their life^[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.^{(A) 26} What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

²⁹ “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill.^(A)

²² Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools^{(A) 23} and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images^(B) made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

²⁴ No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.^(A)

² Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.^(A)

⁴ not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.^(A)

¹⁸ For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears,^(A) many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.^{(B) 19} Their destiny^(C) is destruction, their god is their stomach,^(D) and their glory is in their shame.^(E) Their mind is set on earthly things.^(F)
