11 Dear friends,(A) since God so loved us,(B) we also ought to love one another.(C) 12 No one has ever seen God;(D) but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.(E)

13 This is how we know(F) that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.(G) 14 And we have seen and testify(H) that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.(I) 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,(J) God lives in them and they in God.(K) 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love.(L) Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.(M) 17 This is how love is made complete(N) among us so that we will have confidence(O) on the day of judgment:(P) In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,(Q) because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Jesus Walks on the Water(A)(B)

45 Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat(C) and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida,(D) while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.(E)

47 Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. 48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost.(F) They cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified.

Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”(G) 51 Then he climbed into the boat(H) with them, and the wind died down.(I) They were completely amazed, 52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.(J)
