But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies (A)were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as (B)they also lusted. (C)And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, (D)“The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”

Now these things occurred as examples(B) to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters,(C) as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[a](D)
