^11 (A)A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. ^12 (B)But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. ^13 (C)For it was Adam who was first ^[a]created, and then Eve. ¹⁴ And it was not Adam who was deceived, but ^(D)the woman was ^[b]deceived and ^[c]became a wrongdoer. ¹⁵ But ^[d]women will be ^[e]preserved through ^[f]childbirth—if they continue in ^(E)faith, love, and sanctity, with moderation.

3 ^(A)It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the ^(B)office of ^[a]overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. ^2 [b](C)An overseer, then, must be above reproach, ^(D)the husband of one wife, ^[c](E)temperate, self-controlled, respectable, ^(F)hospitable, ^(G)skillful in teaching,

³⁴ the women are to ^(A)keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but ^(B)are to subject themselves, just as ^(C)the Law also says. ³⁵ If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is ^[a]improper for a woman to speak in church.
