4 For verily when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulations, even as it came to pass, and ye know it.
5 Even for this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent him that I might know of your faith, lest the tempter had tempted you in any sort, and that our labor had been in vain.
6 [a]But now lately when Timothy came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and love, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring to see us, as we also do you,

4 In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know.(A) 5 For this reason, when I could stand it no longer,(B) I sent to find out about your faith.(C) I was afraid that in some way the tempter(D) had tempted you and that our labors might have been in vain.(E)

6 But Timothy(F) has just now come to us from you(G) and has brought good news about your faith and love.(H) He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you.(I)
