³⁹ When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed be the Lord who championed my cause against Nabal’s insults^(A) and restrained his servant from doing evil.^(B) The Lord brought Nabal’s evil deeds back on his own head.”^(C)

Then David sent messengers to speak to Abigail about marrying him.

³³ The responsibility for their deaths will come back to Joab and to his descendants^[a] forever, but for David, his descendants, his dynasty, and his throne, there will be peace from the Lord forever.”^(A)
