20 Long ago they disobeyed while God kept waiting patiently, in the days of Noah as the ark was being built. In that ark a few (that is, eight souls) were brought safely through water. 21 Corresponding to that, immersion now brings you to safety—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but a pledge to God of a good conscience—through the resurrection of Messiah Yeshua. 22 He has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels and authorities and powers subjected to Him.

20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently(A) in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.(B) In it only a few people, eight in all,(C) were saved(D) through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you(E) also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience(F) toward God.[a] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,(G) 22 who has gone into heaven(H) and is at God’s right hand(I)—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.(J)
