(A)In this you greatly rejoice, even though now (B)for a little while, (C)if necessary, you have been distressed by (D)various [a]trials, so that the [b](E)proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which perishes (F)though tested by fire, (G)may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at (H)the revelation of Jesus Christ; and (I)though you have not seen Him, you (J)love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and [c]full of glory, obtaining as (K)the outcome of your faith, the salvation of [d]your souls.

10 (L)As to this salvation, the prophets who (M)prophesied of the (N)grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 [e]seeking to know what person or time (O)the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He (P)predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories [f]to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who (Q)preached the gospel to you by (R)the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which (S)angels long to [g]look.
