1 Kings 21:27-29
New International Version
27 When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth(A) and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly.(B)
28 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite: 29 “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled(C) himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day,(D) but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”(E)

27 And when Ahab heard those words, he (A)tore his clothes and (B)put sackcloth on his flesh and (C)fasted and lay in sackcloth and went about dejectedly. 28 And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29 “Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; (D)but in his son's days I will bring the disaster upon his house.”

Contemporary English Version
25-29 When Ahab heard this, he tore his clothes in sorrow and wore sackcloth day and night. He was depressed and refused to eat.
Some time later, the Lord said, “Elijah, do you see how sorry Ahab is for what he did? I won't punish his family while he is still alive. I'll wait until his son is king.”
No one was more determined than Ahab to disobey the Lord. And Jezebel encouraged him. Worst of all, he had worshiped idols, just as the Amorites[a] had done before the Lord forced them out of the land and gave it to Israel.
