33 After this event, Jeroboam [still] did not turn from his evil way, but again made priests for the high places from among all the people. He ordained anyone who was willing, so that there would be priests for the high places. 34 And this thing (idol worship) became the sin of the house of Jeroboam to blot it out and eliminate it from the face of the earth.

33 But Jeroboam kept on doing evil things. He appointed men to be priests at the local shrines, even if they were not Levites. In fact, anyone who wanted to be a priest could be one. 34 This sinful thing led to the downfall of his kingdom.

33 Even after this, Jeroboam did not change his evil ways,(A) but once more appointed priests for the high places from all sorts(B) of people. Anyone who wanted to become a priest he consecrated for the high places. 34 This was the sin(C) of the house of Jeroboam that led to its downfall and to its destruction(D) from the face of the earth.
