Testimony Concerning the Son of God
6 This is he who came (A)by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And (B)the Spirit is the one who testifies, because (C)the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. 9 (D)If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God (E)that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God (F)has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God (G)has made him a liar, (H)because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us (I)eternal life, and (J)this life is in his Son. 12 (K)Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

6 Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ ἐλθὼν δι’ ὕδατος καὶ αἵματος, Ἰησοῦς Χριστός· οὐκ ἐν τῷ ὕδατι μόνον ἀλλ’ ἐν τῷ ὕδατι καὶ [a]ἐν τῷ αἵματι· καὶ τὸ πνεῦμά ἐστιν τὸ μαρτυροῦν, ὅτι τὸ πνεῦμά ἐστιν ἡ ἀλήθεια. 7 ὅτι τρεῖς εἰσιν οἱ μαρτυροῦντες, 8 τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸ αἷμα, καὶ οἱ τρεῖς εἰς τὸ ἕν εἰσιν. 9 εἰ τὴν μαρτυρίαν τῶν ἀνθρώπων λαμβάνομεν, ἡ μαρτυρία τοῦ θεοῦ μείζων ἐστίν, ὅτι αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ μαρτυρία τοῦ θεοῦ [b]ὅτι μεμαρτύρηκεν περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ. 10 ὁ πιστεύων εἰς τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἔχει τὴν μαρτυρίαν ἐν [c]αὑτῷ· ὁ μὴ πιστεύων τῷ θεῷ ψεύστην πεποίηκεν αὐτόν, ὅτι οὐ πεπίστευκεν εἰς τὴν μαρτυρίαν ἣν μεμαρτύρηκεν ὁ θεὸς περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ. 11 καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ μαρτυρία, ὅτι ζωὴν αἰώνιον ἔδωκεν [d]ὁ θεὸς ἡμῖν, καὶ αὕτη ἡ ζωὴ ἐν τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ ἐστιν. 12 ὁ ἔχων τὸν υἱὸν ἔχει τὴν ζωήν· ὁ μὴ ἔχων τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν ζωὴν οὐκ ἔχει.

6 This is the one who came by water and blood(A)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.(B) 7 For there are three(C) that testify: 8 the[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 We accept human testimony,(D) but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God,(E) which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony.(F) Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar,(G) because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life,(H) and this life is in his Son.(I) 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.(J)
