14 We know that we are translated from death to life because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother, abides in death. 15 Whosoever hates his brother is a man-slayer. And you know that no man-slayer has eternal life abiding in him.
16 By this we perceive love: that he gave his life for us. And therefore we also ought to give our lives for the brethren.

14 We know that we have passed from death to life,(A) because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.(B) 15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister(C) is a murderer,(D) and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.(E)
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.(F) And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.(G)
