(A)If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the (B)truth is not in us. (C)If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and (D)cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 (E)If we say that we have not sinned, we (F)make Him a liar and (G)His word is not in us.

Christ Is Our Advocate

(H)My little children, I am (I)writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, (J)we have an [a](K)Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is (L)the [b]propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also (M)for the sins of the whole world.

(N)By this we know that we have come to (O)know Him, if we (P)keep His commandments. The one who says, “(Q)I have come to (R)know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a (S)liar, and (T)the truth is not in him; but whoever (U)follows His word, in him the (V)love of God has truly been perfected. (W)By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says that he (X)remains in Him (Y)ought, himself also, walk just as He walked.
