Order in Church Meetings

26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, (A)has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. (B)Let all things be done for [a]edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and (C)let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, (D)let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And (E)the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of [b]confusion but of peace, (F)as in all the churches of the saints.

34 (G)Let [c]your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the (H)law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.

36 Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? 37 (I)If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But [d]if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39 Therefore, brethren, (J)desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. 40 (K)Let all things be done decently and in order.

The Risen Christ, Faith’s Reality(L)

15 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel (M)which I preached to you, which also you received and (N)in which you stand, (O)by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless (P)you believed in vain.

For (Q)I delivered to you first of all that (R)which I also received: that Christ died for our sins (S)according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day (T)according to the Scriptures, (U)and that He was seen by [e]Cephas, then (V)by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have [f]fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then (W)by all the apostles. (X)Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

For I am (Y)the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because (Z)I persecuted the church of God. 10 But (AA)by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, (AB)yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11 Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

Good Order in Worship

26 What then shall we say, brothers and sisters?(A) When you come together, each of you(B) has a hymn,(C) or a word of instruction,(D) a revelation, a tongue(E) or an interpretation.(F) Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.(G) 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. 28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God.

29 Two or three prophets(H) should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.(I) 30 And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. 31 For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. 32 The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.(J) 33 For God is not a God of disorder(K) but of peace(L)—as in all the congregations(M) of the Lord’s people.(N)

34 Women[a] should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak,(O) but must be in submission,(P) as the law(Q) says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.[b]

36 Or did the word of God(R) originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet(S) or otherwise gifted by the Spirit,(T) let them acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command.(U) 38 But if anyone ignores this, they will themselves be ignored.[c]

39 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager(V) to prophesy,(W) and do not forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly(X) way.

The Resurrection of Christ

15 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel(Y) I preached to you,(Z) which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved,(AA) if you hold firmly(AB) to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

For what I received(AC) I passed on to you(AD) as of first importance[d]: that Christ died for our sins(AE) according to the Scriptures,(AF) that he was buried,(AG) that he was raised(AH) on the third day(AI) according to the Scriptures,(AJ) and that he appeared to Cephas,[e](AK) and then to the Twelve.(AL) After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.(AM) Then he appeared to James,(AN) then to all the apostles,(AO) and last of all he appeared to me also,(AP) as to one abnormally born.

For I am the least of the apostles(AQ) and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted(AR) the church of God.(AS) 10 But by the grace(AT) of God I am what I am, and his grace to me(AU) was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them(AV)—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.(AW) 11 Whether, then, it is I or they,(AX) this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.
