Unity and Diversity in One Body^(A)

¹² For ^(B)as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, ^(C)so also is Christ. ¹³ For ^(D)by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—^(E)whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and ^(F)have all been made to drink ^[a]into one Spirit. ¹⁴ For in fact the body is not one member but many.

¹⁵ If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁶ And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁷ If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? ¹⁸ But now ^(G)God has set the members, each one of them, in the body ^(H)just as He pleased. ¹⁹ And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

²⁰ But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. ²¹ And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” ²² No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. ²³ And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, ²⁴ but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, ²⁵ that there should be no ^[b]schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. ²⁶ And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

²⁷ Now ^(I)you are the body of Christ, and ^(J)members individually. ²⁸ And ^(K)God has appointed these in the church: first ^(L)apostles, second ^(M)prophets, third teachers, after that ^(N)miracles, then ^(O)gifts of healings, ^(P)helps, ^(Q)administrations, varieties of tongues. ²⁹ Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? ³⁰ Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? ³¹ But ^(R)earnestly desire the ^[c]best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

The Greatest Gift

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. ² And though I have the gift of ^(S)prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, ^(T)so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. ³ And ^(U)though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body ^[d]to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

^4 (V)Love suffers long and is ^(W)kind; love ^(X)does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not ^[e]puffed up; ⁵ does not behave rudely, ^(Y)does not seek its own, is not provoked, ^[f]thinks no evil; ^6 (Z)does not rejoice in iniquity, but ^(AA)rejoices in the truth; ^7 (AB)bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

⁸ Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. ^9 (AC)For we know in part and we prophesy in part. ¹⁰ But when that which is ^[g]perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. ¹² For ^(AD)now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then ^(AE)face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

¹³ And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Christ Our Cornerstone

¹⁹ Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, ²⁰ having been ^(A)built ^(B)on the foundation of the ^(C)apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being ^(D)the chief cornerstone, ²¹ in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into ^(E)a holy temple in the Lord, ^22 (F)in whom you also are being built together for a ^(G)dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

¹¹ And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, ¹² for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, ^(A)for the ^[a]edifying of ^(B)the body of Christ, ¹³ till we all come to the unity of the faith ^(C)and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to ^(D)a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; ¹⁴ that we should no longer be ^(E)children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of ^(F)deceitful plotting, ¹⁵ but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the ^(G)head—Christ— ^16 (H)from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

¹⁵ but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ^[a]ground of the truth.

Hold Fast Your Confession

¹⁹ Therefore, brethren, having ^(A)boldness^[a] to enter ^(B)the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰ by a new and ^(C)living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, ²¹ and having a High Priest over the house of God, ²² let us ^(D)draw near with a true heart ^(E)in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. ²³ Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for ^(F)He who promised is faithful. ²⁴ And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, ^25 (G)not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and ^(H)so much the more as you see ^(I)the Day approaching.
