11 Now these things happened to them as an example, but (A)they were written down for our instruction, (B)on whom the end of the ages has come. 12 Therefore (C)let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. (D)God is faithful, and (E)he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

14 Therefore, my beloved, (F)flee from idolatry. 15 I speak (G)as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 (H)The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? (I)The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? 17 Because there is one bread, we who are many are (J)one body, for we all partake of the one bread. 18 Consider (K)the people of Israel:[a] (L)are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar? 19 What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that (M)an idol is anything? 20 No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice (N)they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 (O)You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and (P)the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and (Q)the table of demons. 22 (R)Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? (S)Are we stronger than he?

14 Διόπερ, ἀγαπητοί μου, φεύγετε ἀπὸ τῆς εἰδωλολατρίας. 15 ὡς φρονίμοις λέγω· κρίνατε ὑμεῖς ὅ φημι. 16 τὸ ποτήριον τῆς εὐλογίας ὃ εὐλογοῦμεν, οὐχὶ κοινωνία [e]ἐστὶν τοῦ αἵματος τοῦ Χριστοῦ; τὸν ἄρτον ὃν κλῶμεν, οὐχὶ κοινωνία τοῦ σώματος τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐστιν; 17 ὅτι εἷς ἄρτος, ἓν σῶμα οἱ πολλοί ἐσμεν, οἱ γὰρ πάντες ἐκ τοῦ ἑνὸς ἄρτου μετέχομεν. 18 βλέπετε τὸν Ἰσραὴλ κατὰ σάρκα· [f]οὐχ οἱ ἐσθίοντες τὰς θυσίας κοινωνοὶ τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου εἰσίν; 19 τί οὖν φημι; ὅτι [g]εἰδωλόθυτόν τί ἐστιν, ἢ ὅτι εἴδωλόν τί ἐστιν; 20 ἀλλ’ ὅτι ἃ [h]θύουσιν, δαιμονίοις [i]καὶ οὐ θεῷ θύουσιν, οὐ θέλω δὲ ὑμᾶς κοινωνοὺς τῶν δαιμονίων γίνεσθαι. 21 οὐ δύνασθε ποτήριον κυρίου πίνειν καὶ ποτήριον δαιμονίων· οὐ δύνασθε τραπέζης κυρίου μετέχειν καὶ τραπέζης δαιμονίων. 22 ἢ παραζηλοῦμεν τὸν κύριον; μὴ ἰσχυρότεροι αὐτοῦ ἐσμεν;

11 These things happened to them as examples(A) and were written down as warnings for us,(B) on whom the culmination of the ages has come.(C) 12 So, if you think you are standing firm,(D) be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful;(E) he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear.(F) But when you are tempted,[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Idol Feasts and the Lord’s Supper

14 Therefore, my dear friends,(G) flee from idolatry.(H) 15 I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break(I) a participation in the body of Christ?(J) 17 Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body,(K) for we all share the one loaf.

18 Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices(L) participate in the altar? 19 Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?(M) 20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons,(N) not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.(O) 22 Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy?(P) Are we stronger than he?(Q)
