³² Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined^(A) so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.^(B)

⁵ And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,

⁷ Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.^(D) For what children are not disciplined by their father?

³⁷ I will take note of you as you pass under my rod,^(A) and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant.^(B)

²⁰ Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn^(A) while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.^(B)
