  1. Daniel 9:26 Or death and will have no one; or death, but not for himself

36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.

40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.

45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

The King Who Exalts Himself

36 “The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself(A) above every god and will say unheard-of things(B) against the God of gods.(C) He will be successful until the time of wrath(D) is completed, for what has been determined must take place.(E) 37 He will show no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. 38 Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his ancestors he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts. 39 He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.[a]

40 “At the time of the end the king of the South(F) will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm(G) out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood.(H) 41 He will also invade the Beautiful Land.(I) Many countries will fall, but Edom,(J) Moab(K) and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his hand. 42 He will extend his power over many countries; Egypt will not escape. 43 He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt,(L) with the Libyans(M) and Cushites[b] in submission. 44 But reports from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many. 45 He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at[c] the beautiful holy mountain.(N) Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Don’t let anyone deceive you(A) in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion(B) occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed,(C) the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God(D) or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.(E)

Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?(F) And now you know what is holding him back,(G) so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back(H) will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed,(I) whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth(J) and destroy by the splendor of his coming.(K) The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan(L) works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders(M) that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.(N) They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.(O) 11 For this reason God sends them(P) a powerful delusion(Q) so that they will believe the lie(R) 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.(S)
