The Beast from the Sea

13 And the dragon stood on the sand of the ^[a]seashore.

Then I saw a ^(A)beast coming up out of the sea, having ^(B)ten horns and ^(C)seven heads, and on his horns were ^(D)ten crowns, and on his heads were ^(E)blasphemous names. ² And the beast that I saw was ^(F)like a leopard, and his feet were like those of ^(G)a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of ^(H)a lion. And the ^(I)dragon gave him his power and his ^(J)throne, and great authority. ³ I saw one of his heads as if it had been ^[b]fatally wounded, and his ^(K)fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth ^(L)was amazed and followed after the beast; ⁴ they worshiped the ^(M)dragon because he ^(N)gave his authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “^(O)Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?” ⁵ A mouth was given to him ^(P)speaking ^[c]arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for ^(Q)forty-two months was given to him. ⁶ And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, ^(R)those who dwell in heaven.

⁷ It was also given to him to ^(S)make war with the ^[d]saints and to overcome them, and authority was given to him over ^(T)every tribe, people, language, and nation. ⁸ All who ^(U)live on the earth will worship him, everyone ^(V)whose name has not been ^[e]written ^(W)since the foundation of the world in the ^(X)book of life of ^(Y)the Lamb who has been slaughtered.

^18 (A)Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that ^(B)of a ^[a]man; and his number is ^[b]six hundred and sixty-six.

⁸ While I was thinking about the horns, behold, ^(A)another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the previous horns were plucked out before it; and behold, ^[a]this horn possessed eyes like human eyes, and ^(B)a mouth uttering great boasts.

¹¹ Then I kept looking because of the sound of the ^[a]boastful words which the horn was speaking; I kept looking until the beast was killed, and its body was destroyed and given to the ^(A)burning ^[b]fire.

²⁰ and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, and before which three of the horns fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth uttering great boasts, and ^[a]which was larger in appearance than its associates. ²¹ I kept looking, and that horn was ^(A)waging war with the ^[b]saints and prevailing against them,

²⁴ As for the ^(A)ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will ^[a]humble three kings. ²⁵ And he will ^[b](B)speak against the ^(C)Most High and ^(D)wear down the ^[c]saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make ^(E)alterations in times and in law; and ^[d]they will be handed over to him for a ^[e](F)time, ^[f]times, and half a ^[g]time. ²⁶ But the court will ^[h]convene for judgment, and his dominion will be ^(G)taken away, ^[i]annihilated and destroyed ^[j]forever.

The Little Horn

⁹ And out of one of them came a rather ^(A)small horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the ^[a](B)Beautiful Land. ¹⁰ It grew up to the heavenly ^[b]lights, and some of the ^[c]lights, ^[d]that is, some of the ^(C)stars it threw down to the earth, and it ^(D)trampled them. ¹¹ It even ^(E)exalted itself ^[e]to be equal with the ^[f]Commander of the army; and it removed the ^(F)regular sacrifice from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was overthrown. ¹² And because of ^[g]an offense the army will be given to the horn along with the regular sacrifice; and it will ^(G)hurl truth to the ground and do as it pleases and be successful.

²⁷ And he will confirm a covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of ^[a](A)abominations will come the one who ^[b]makes desolate, until a ^(B)complete destruction, one that is ^[c]decreed, gushes forth on the one who ^[d]makes desolate.”
