Psalm 106:13-23
New International Version
13 But they soon forgot(A) what he had done
and did not wait for his plan to unfold.(B)
14 In the desert(C) they gave in to their craving;
in the wilderness(D) they put God to the test.(E)
15 So he gave them(F) what they asked for,
but sent a wasting disease(G) among them.
16 In the camp they grew envious(H) of Moses
and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the Lord.
17 The earth opened(I) up and swallowed Dathan;(J)
it buried the company of Abiram.(K)
18 Fire blazed(L) among their followers;
a flame consumed the wicked.
19 At Horeb they made a calf(M)
and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
20 They exchanged their glorious God(N)
for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
21 They forgot the God(O) who saved them,
who had done great things(P) in Egypt,
22 miracles in the land of Ham(Q)
and awesome deeds(R) by the Red Sea.
23 So he said he would destroy(S) them—
had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach(T) before him
to keep his wrath from destroying them.

Deuteronomy 4:9-14
New International Version
9 Only be careful,(A) and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach(B) them to your children(C) and to their children after them. 10 Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb,(D) when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn(E) to revere(F) me as long as they live in the land(G) and may teach(H) them to their children.” 11 You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain(I) while it blazed with fire(J) to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness.(K) 12 Then the Lord spoke(L) to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form;(M) there was only a voice.(N) 13 He declared to you his covenant,(O) the Ten Commandments,(P) which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets. 14 And the Lord directed me at that time to teach you the decrees and laws(Q) you are to follow in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.
1 Timothy 4:6-16
New International Version
6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,[a] you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith(A) and of the good teaching that you have followed.(B) 7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales;(C) rather, train yourself to be godly.(D) 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things,(E) holding promise for both the present life(F) and the life to come.(G) 9 This is a trustworthy saying(H) that deserves full acceptance. 10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God,(I) who is the Savior of all people,(J) and especially of those who believe.
11 Command and teach these things.(K) 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you(L) because you are young, but set an example(M) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith(N) and in purity. 13 Until I come,(O) devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture,(P) to preaching and to teaching. 14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy(Q) when the body of elders(R) laid their hands on you.(S)
15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save(T) both yourself and your hearers.
