16 You turn things around!
Shall the potter be considered [a]as equal with the clay,
That (A)what is made would say to its maker, “He did not make me”;
Or what is formed say to him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?

22 [a]What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with great (A)patience objects of wrath (B)prepared for destruction? 23 And He did so to make known (C)the riches of His glory upon (D)objects of mercy, which He (E)prepared beforehand for glory, 24 namely us, whom He also (F)called, (G)not only from among Jews, but also from among Gentiles, 25 as He also says in Hosea:

(H)I will call those who were not My people, ‘My people,’
And her who was not beloved, ‘beloved.’”
26 (I)And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘you are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of (J)the living God.”

27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “(K)Though the number of the sons of Israel may be (L)like the sand of the sea, only (M)the remnant will be saved; 28 (N)for the Lord will execute His word on the earth, [b]thoroughly and [c]quickly.” 29 And just as Isaiah foretold:

(O)If (P)the Lord [d]of armies had not left us [e](Q)descendants,
(R)We would have become like Sodom, and would have [f]been like Gomorrah.”

30 (S)What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, but (T)the righteousness that is [g]by faith; 31 however, Israel, (U)pursuing a law of righteousness, did not (V)arrive at that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it [h]by faith, but as though they could [i]by works. They stumbled over (W)the stumbling stone, 33 just as it is written:

(X)Behold, I am laying in Zion (Y)a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,
(Z)And the one who believes in Him (AA)will not be [j]put to shame.”
