60:3 wine to drink . . . stagger. The image is a frequent one in the prophets. The cup that makes a nation stagger is the cup of judgment (Jer. 25:15–38; Nah. 3:11). Jesus drank the cup of wrath to its dregs on behalf of His people (Matt. 26:39 and parallels).
