2:12, 13 This prophecy of a remnant preserved like sheep in a pen recalls the remnant of Judah sheltered within Jerusalem while Sennacherib overran much of the land. The Lord then delivered them by decimating the Assyrian army (2 Kin. 18:17–19:37). Such provisional deliverances of God’s chosen remnant anticipate the greater triumph of the Shepherd-King (5:2–5).
