6:9 Beth-shemesh. Lit. “House of the Sun.” One of several places in Israel with this name, this Beth-shemesh has been identified with Tel er-Rumeileh, seven miles east of Ekron (5:10 note). Beth-shemesh was a border city (v. 12; Josh. 15:10) frequently in dispute between the Philistines and Israelites (2 Chr. 28:18).
