  1. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.

    When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’

    When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, ‘The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.
  8. Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
  9. ‘We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death
  10. just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’
  11. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
  12. ‘Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.
  13. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
  14. and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
  15. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
  16. The sheep and the goats

    ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
  17. ‘As you know, the Passover is two days away – and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.’
  18. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.’
  19. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, ‘Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.
  20. ‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied. ‘But I say to all of you: from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’
  21. But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.’ So he said to the man,
  22. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.’
  23. Jesus predicts his death

    He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.
  24. If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.’
  25. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
  26. Jesus replied, ‘To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected?
  27. because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, ‘The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.’

  33. ‘I am,’ said Jesus. ‘And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’
  34. But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.’ So he said to the paralysed man, ‘I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.’
  35. Then Jesus said to them, ‘The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.’
  36. Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
  37. The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, “Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”
  38. And he said, ‘The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.’
  39. Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
  40. ‘Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.’
  41. Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’
  42. For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation.
  43. ‘I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.
  44. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
  45. You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.’
  46. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.
  47. For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other.
  48. ‘Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.
  49. ‘It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.
  50. I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?’
  51. Jesus predicts his death a third time

    Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, ‘We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
  52. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.’
  53. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
  54. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.’
  55. The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!’
  56. but Jesus asked him, ‘Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?’
  57. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.’
  58. “The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.” ’
  59. He then added, ‘Very truly I tell you, you will see “heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on” the Son of Man.’
  60. No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven – the Son of Man.
  61. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
  62. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.
  63. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.’
  64. Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
  65. Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!
  66. So Jesus said, ‘When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.
  67. Spiritual blindness

    Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, ‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?’
  68. Jesus replied, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
  69. The crowd spoke up, ‘We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain for ever, so how can you say, “The Son of Man must be lifted up” ? Who is this “Son of Man”?’
