  12. He created them male and female, and blessed them and named them Mankind at the time they were created.
  13. When Adam had lived a hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.
  14. He named him Noah, saying, “This one shall bring us rest and comfort from our work and from the [dreadful] toil of our hands because of the ground which the Lord cursed.”
  15. Two sons were born to Eber; the name of one was Peleg (division), for [the inhabitants of] the earth were divided in his days; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

    Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not borne him any children, and she had an Egyptian maid whose name was Hagar.
  23. The Angel of the Lord continued, “Behold, you are with child, And you will bear a son; And you shall name him Ishmael (God hears), Because the Lord has heard and paid attention to your persecution (suffering).
  24. Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are God Who Sees”; for she said, “Have I not even here [in the wilderness] remained alive after seeing Him [who sees me with understanding and compassion]?”
  25. So Hagar gave birth to Abram’s son; and Abram named his son, to whom Hagar gave birth, Ishmael (God hears).
