  1. But the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, on the road to [Egypt by way of] Shur.
  2. The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Go back to your mistress, and submit humbly to her authority.”
  3. Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count.”
  4. The Angel of the Lord continued, “Behold, you are with child, And you will bear a son; And you shall name him Ishmael (God hears), Because the Lord has heard and paid attention to your persecution (suffering).
  5. Now the [two] men (angelic beings) turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.
  6. The Doom of Sodom

    It was evening when the two angels came to Sodom. Lot was sitting at Sodom’s [city] gate. Seeing them, Lot got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.
  7. But the men (angels) reached out with their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door [after him].
  8. And the [two] men (angels) asked Lot, “Have you any others here [in Sodom]—a son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters? Whomever you have in the city, take them out of here;
  9. When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot [to hurry], saying, “Get up! Take your wife and two daughters who are here [and go], or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city.”
  10. When they had brought them outside, one [of the angels] said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, or stop anywhere in the entire valley; escape to the mountains [of Moab], or you will be consumed and swept away.”
  11. And the angel said to him, “Behold, I grant you this request also; I will not destroy this town of which you have spoken.
  12. God heard the voice of the boy, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid, for God has heard the voice of the boy from where he is [resting].
  13. But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” He answered, “Here I am.”
  14. The Angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time
  15. The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house, from the land of my family and my birth, who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give this land’—He will send His angel before you [to guide you], and you will take a wife from there for my son [and bring her here].
  16. He said to me, ‘The Lord, before whom I walk [habitually and obediently], will send His angel with you to make your journey successful, and you will take a wife for my son from my relatives and from my father’s house;
  17. He dreamed that there was a ladder (stairway) placed on the earth, and the top of it reached [out of sight] toward heaven; and [he saw] the angels of God ascending and descending on it [going to and from heaven].
  18. And the Angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob.’ And I said, ‘Here I am.’
  19. Jacob’s Fear of Esau

    Then as Jacob went on his way, the angels of God met him [to reassure and protect him].
  20. The Angel [that is, the Lord Himself] who has redeemed me [continually] from all evil, Bless the boys; And may my name live on in them [may they be worthy of having their names linked with mine], And the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; And may they grow into a [great] multitude in the midst of the earth.”
  21. The Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing flame of fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was on fire, yet it was not consumed.
  22. The angel of God, who had been going in front of the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them. The pillar of the cloud moved from in front and stood behind them.
  23. Conquest of the Land

    “Behold, I am going to send an Angel before you to keep and guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
  24. When My Angel goes before you and brings you to [the land of] the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, I will reject them and completely destroy them.
  25. You shall make two cherubim (winged angelic figures) of [solid] hammered gold at the two ends of the mercy seat.
