    The Lord said to Moses,
  10. “Say to the Israelites: ‘On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts.
  11. Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement sound the trumpet throughout your land.
  12. “‘As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them.
  13. The Silver Trumpets

    The Lord said to Moses:
  14. “Make two trumpets of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community together and for having the camps set out.
  15. When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
  16. If only one is sounded, the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you.
  17. When a trumpet blast is sounded, the tribes camping on the east are to set out.
  18. At the sounding of a second blast, the camps on the south are to set out. The blast will be the signal for setting out.
  19. To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets, but not with the signal for setting out.
  20. “The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come.
  21. When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the Lord your God and rescued from your enemies.
  22. Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed festivals and New Moon feasts—you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the Lord your God.”

    “‘On the first day of the seventh month hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. It is a day for you to sound the trumpets.
  24. Moses sent them into battle, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.
  25. Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice.
