  1. And the angel of the Lord said to her, “Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because the Lord has listened to your affliction.
  2. And Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
  3. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.
  4. And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”
  5. As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation.

  8. That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised.
  9. God Protects Hagar and Ishmael

    And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.
  10. Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, east of Mamre,
  11. These are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's servant, bore to Abraham.

  15. Esau Marries an Ishmaelite

  21. Joseph and Potiphar's Wife

    Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there.
  22. And Gideon said to them, “Let me make a request of you: every one of you give me the earrings from his spoil.” (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)
  23. Now Absalom had set Amasa over the army instead of Joab. Amasa was the son of a man named Ithra the Ishmaelite, who had married Abigal the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother.

  25. But in the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family, came with ten men and struck down Gedaliah and put him to death along with the Jews and the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah.
