  18. Peter Explains His Actions

    The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.
  19. When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
  20. Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: “Fellow Israelites and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me!
  21. “Fellow children of Abraham and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.
  22. Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.
  23. For this is what the Lord has commanded us: “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”
  24. When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.
  25. But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
