18 And he is the head(A) of the body, the church;(B) he is the beginning and the firstborn(C) from among the dead,(D) so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased(E) to have all his fullness(F) dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile(G) to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven,(H) by making peace(I) through his blood,(J) shed on the cross.

21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies(K) in your minds(L) because of[a] your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled(M) you by Christ’s physical body(N) through death to present you(O) holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation(P) 23 if you continue(Q) in your faith, established(R) and firm, and do not move from the hope(S) held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven,(T) and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.(U)

Paul’s Labor for the Church

24 Now I rejoice(V) in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions,(W) for the sake of his body, which is the church.(X) 25 I have become its servant(Y) by the commission God gave me(Z) to present to you the word of God(AA) in its fullness— 26 the mystery(AB) that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. 27 To them God has chosen to make known(AC) among the Gentiles the glorious riches(AD) of this mystery, which is Christ in you,(AE) the hope of glory.

28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing(AF) and teaching everyone with all wisdom,(AG) so that we may present everyone fully mature(AH) in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously(AI) contend(AJ) with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.(AK)

I want you to know how hard I am contending(AL) for you and for those at Laodicea,(AM) and for all who have not met me personally. My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart(AN) and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery(AO) of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.(AP) I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.(AQ) For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit(AR) and delight to see how disciplined(AS) you are and how firm(AT) your faith in Christ(AU) is.

18 He is also the (A)head of (B)the body, the church; and He is (C)the beginning, (D)the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19 For [a]it was (E)the Father’s good pleasure for all (F)the [b]fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to (G)reconcile all things to Himself, (H)whether things on earth or things in [c]heaven, having made (I)peace through (J)the blood of His cross.

21 And although you were (K)previously alienated and hostile in attitude, engaged in evil deeds, 22 yet He has now (L)reconciled you in His (M)body of flesh through death, in order to (N)present you before Him (O)holy and blameless and beyond reproach— 23 if indeed you continue in [d]the faith firmly (P)established and steadfast, and not shifting from the (Q)hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed (R)in all creation under heaven, (S)and of which I, Paul, [e]was made a [f](T)minister.

24 (U)Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh (V)I am supplementing what is lacking [g]in Christ’s afflictions in behalf of (W)His body, which is the church. 25 (X)I [h]was made a minister of this church according to the (Y)commission from God granted to me for your benefit, so that I might [i]fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, 26 that is, (Z)the mystery which had been hidden from the past ages and generations, but now has been revealed to His [j]saints, 27 to whom (AA)God willed to make known what (AB)the wealth of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles is, the mystery that is (AC)Christ in you, the (AD)hope of glory. 28 We proclaim Him, (AE)admonishing every person and teaching every person [k]with all (AF)wisdom, so that we may (AG)present every person [l](AH)complete in Christ. 29 For this purpose I also (AI)labor, (AJ)striving (AK)according to His [m]power which [n]works mightily within me.

You Are Built Up in Christ

For I want you to know how great a (AL)struggle I have in your behalf and for those who are at (AM)Laodicea, and for all those who have not [o]personally seen my face, that their (AN)hearts may be encouraged, having been (AO)knit together in love, and that they would attain to all (AP)the wealth [p]that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a (AQ)true knowledge of (AR)God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all (AS)the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (AT)I say this so that no one will deceive you with (AU)persuasive arguments. For even though I am (AV)absent in body, I am nevertheless with you in spirit, rejoicing [q]to see [r]your (AW)orderly manner and the (AX)stability of your faith in Christ.
