Simon the Sorcerer

⁹Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery^(A) in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great,^(B) ¹⁰and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.”^(C) ¹¹They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. ¹²But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God^(D) and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized,^(E) both men and women. ¹³Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles^(F) he saw.

¹⁴When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria^(G) had accepted the word of God,^(H) they sent Peter and John^(I) to Samaria. ¹⁵When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit,^(J) ¹⁶because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them;^(K) they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.^(L) ¹⁷Then Peter and John placed their hands on them,^(M) and they received the Holy Spirit.^(N)

⁹Now a man named Simon had previously been practicing ^(A)magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, ^(B)claiming to be someone great; ¹⁰and all the people, from small to great, were paying attention to him, saying, “^(C)This man is the Power of God that is called Great.” ¹¹And they were paying attention to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his ^(D)magic arts. ¹²But when they believed Philip ^(E)as he was preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were being ^(F)baptized. ¹³Now even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed ^(G)signs and ^(H)great miracles taking place, he was repeatedly amazed.

¹⁴Now when ^(I)the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them ^(J)Peter and John, ¹⁵who came down and prayed for them ^(K)that they would receive the Holy Spirit. ¹⁶(For He had ^(L)not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been ^(M)baptized ^[a]in the name of the Lord Jesus.) ¹⁷Then they ^(N)began laying their hands on them, and they were ^(O)receiving the Holy Spirit.
