Jesus Is Mocked

²⁷^(A)Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into ^(B)the ^[a]Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman ^[b]^(C)cohort to Him. ²⁸And they stripped Him and ^(D)put a red ^[c]cloak on Him. ²⁹^(E)And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a ^[d]reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “^(F)Hail, King of the Jews!” ³⁰And ^(G)they spit on Him, and took the reed and beat Him on the head.

¹⁶^(A)Now the soldiers took Him away into ^(B)the ^[a]palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they *called together the whole Roman ^[b]^(C)cohort. ¹⁷And they *dressed Him in ^[c]purple, and after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on Him; ¹⁸and they began saluting Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!” ¹⁹And they repeatedly beat His head with a ^[d]reed and spit on Him, and kneeling, they bowed down before Him. ²⁰And after they had mocked Him, they took the ^[e]purple cloak off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they *led Him out to crucify Him.
