18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, (A)“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 (B)Go [a]therefore and (C)make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 (D)teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am (E)with you always, even to the end of the age.” [b]Amen.

36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. (A)What hinders me from being baptized?”

37 [a]Then Philip said, (B)“If you believe with all your heart, you may.”

And he answered and said, (C)“I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, (A)the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 (B)And [a]those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, (C)because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

Then Peter answered, 47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit (D)just as we have? 48 (E)And he commanded them to be baptized (F)in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

What shall we say then? (A)Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who (B)died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that (C)as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus (D)were baptized into His death? Therefore we were (E)buried with Him through baptism into death, that (F)just as Christ was raised from the dead by (G)the glory of the Father, (H)even so we also should walk in newness of life.

(I)For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,

Christ’s Suffering and Ours

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring [a]us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, [b]when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21 (A)There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (B)(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, (C)but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and (D)is at the right hand of God, (E)angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.

The True Vine

15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. (A)Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He [a]takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear (B)more fruit. (C)You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. (D)Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much (E)fruit; for without Me you can do (F)nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, (G)he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words (H)abide in you, (I)you[b] will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. (J)By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; (K)so you will be My disciples.
