The Road to Emmaus(A)

13 (B)Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was [a]seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that (C)Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But (D)their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.

17 And He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you [b]walk and are sad?”

18 Then the one (E)whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?”

19 And He said to them, “What things?”

So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, (F)who was a Prophet (G)mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 (H)and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping (I)that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. 22 Yes, and (J)certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. 23 When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 And (K)certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.”

25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 (L)Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His (M)glory?” 27 And beginning at (N)Moses and (O)all the Prophets, He [c]expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

The Disciples’ Eyes Opened

28 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and (P)He [d]indicated that He would have gone farther. 29 But (Q)they constrained Him, saying, (R)“Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went in to stay with them.

30 Now it came to pass, as (S)He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.

32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and (T)has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was [e]known to them in the breaking of bread.

Mary Magdalene Sees the Risen Lord

11 (A)But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13 Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”

She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”

14 (B)Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and (C)did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”

She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”

16 Jesus said to her, (D)“Mary!”

She turned and said to [a]Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).

Breakfast by the Sea

21 After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the (A)Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself: Simon Peter, (B)Thomas called the Twin, (C)Nathanael of (D)Cana in Galilee, (E)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”

They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and [a]immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples (F)did not know that it was Jesus. Then (G)Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?”

They answered Him, “No.”

And He said to them, (H)“Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some. So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.

Therefore (I)that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea.

Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ(A)

13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, (B)“Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”

14 So they said, (C)“Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or (D)one of the prophets.”

15 He said to them, “But who do (E)you say that I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered and said, (F)“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, (G)for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but (H)My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that (I)you are Peter, and (J)on this rock I will build My church, and (K)the gates of Hades shall not [a]prevail against it. 19 (L)And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth [b]will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

20 (M)Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.

Jesus Transfigured on the Mount(A)

17 Now (B)after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, [a]let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

(C)While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, (D)“This is My beloved Son, (E)in whom I am well pleased. (F)Hear Him!”
