Submission to Masters^(A)

^18 (B)Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh. ¹⁹ For this is ^(C)commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For ^(D)what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. ²¹ For ^(E)to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for ^[a]us, ^(F)leaving ^[b]us an example, that you should follow His steps:

^23 (H)who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but ^(I)committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; ^24 (J)who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, ^(K)that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—^(L)by whose ^[c]stripes you were healed. ²⁵ For ^(M)you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned ^(N)to the Shepherd and ^[d]Overseer of your souls.

²¹ For ^(A)He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become ^(B)the righteousness of God in Him.

^12 (A)And we labor, working with our own hands. ^(B)Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; ¹³ being defamed, we ^[a]entreat. ^(C)We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.

^44 [a]But I say to you, ^(A)love your enemies, bless those who curse you, ^(B)do good to those who hate you, and pray ^(C)for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

²⁰ Therefore

²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but ^(B)overcome evil with good.
